New Car Sales in Germany: September 2026 – Electric Vehicles Reach Record Share
In September 2026, Germany registered 256,774 new passenger cars (Pkw), an increase of 9% compared to September 2025, according to the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA).

- 88,599 pure electric cars were newly registered.
- This equates to a 34.5% market share – a new high and well above the previous month’s 32.4%.
- BEV registrations increased +94.7% year-on-year.

Year-to-date (January–September 2026) BEV registrations stand at over 604,144 units (+94.7% compared with the same period in 2025). Average CO₂ emissions of all new cars fell to 82.7 g/km (−19.6% year-on-year).
Given that most OEMs have lead times of at least one month, it remains an open question how much of the recent rise in gasoline and diesel prices is already reflected in the current registration figures.

The data points to a continued shift toward electrification in the German passenger car market, with pure electric vehicles now accounting for a substantial share of new registrations.
