AI Will Replace Jobs But Also Won't

Lots of talk continues about AI and AI replacing jobs. While yes a vast majority of AI can and will replace current jobs it's a evolution and a phase into what I would consider a new age. I mean heck any time you play any of these civilization games after manufacturing comes AI so it shouldn't be a shock!

So what jobs will it replace and what ones most likely will see increased value and still require workers? Let's take a look at this top 10 breakdown of each.

*Screenshot pulled from World Economic Forum

Take a good hard look at that and you'll start to see some rather common worthless jobs that AI will quickly replace. Mainly physical labor and data entry. AI will be able to take care of all of this. If anything shocks me the most is number 9 on the decreasing job demand which is Mechanics and machinery repairs. One day you'll be able to drive your car into the shop. Get a quick diagnostic from the hardware on your car, have AI determine the fixes and fix it. That's wild! But makes total sense that that's the way things would advance rolling forward.

What we do see a increase in is those who can interact with this AI and use the data to make human choices and judgment calls. Mainly data analysts which is something I love. Having AI produce data to you from a massive amount of collection points (that currently either under performs or requires a lot of manual work) and allowing the data analytic to take that information and now make judgment calls based on it.

This I believe goes back to the industrial revolution in which AI is the next. People will kick and scream and not adapt and understand well shoot it's going to happen anyways so mid as well get in front of it. Nope they will instead just complain about how unfair it is and get left in the dust.

However I do also feel like most people are smarter now and more aware of these types of changes. Those fearing it will replace too many jobs once again look back to the industrial revolution. Where we saw not only a massive population boon but a fundamental shift in what "work" is. There are more jobs today than there were just before the industrial revolution. So to say there will be less jobs I find that hard to believe.

How AI Works Now

Mainly AI at the moment replaces things like writing and art. But in a way it doesn't fully replace it. That's because these AI systems are simply taking trillion of data points already on the internet and simply reshuffling them into a way that looks unique to search engines and the human eye.

Of course this AI generated content could then be optimized for things like SEO, for adding new data points not known to AI currently and so on thus elevating the content that AI generated.

This allows a human person to be able to quickly generate things they need on the fly and even spark some new fresh ideas of which the human factor would step in and manipulate in a way for it to be more unique to that person.

This then steps into the next phase of marketing and advertising for most businesses. While the above helps and can replace a lot of data entry and data creation jobs (which honestly pay and have paid very low amounts).

What happens next is AI has the ability to create the images and tools for the ads themselves. Normally costing thousands for designers and product think tanks AI can quickly replace these jobs. However it doesn't yet at least replace jobs in terms of taking that data and figuring out what the next best ad would be. That is coming down the pipeline for sure.

Outside of that writers have taken a beating. Aka the writers strike bit them in the butt and AI took over just about all of these jobs. Many new movies, tv shows etc are now being scripted by AI.

Other jobs that will soon be hammered by this are clear cut jobs in which information and knowledge are needed but rarely ever changes. Things like Tax accounting, Lawyers, office and admin support, management, farming and support. Mainly the repetitive boring tasks where there's already a answered answer for it. We see this a lot currently with AI chat bots which act as support and often answer many questions before having to talk to a human agent.

Why AI simply wont replace everything.

Mainly AI is geared towards data collection and presentation. Which to be fair a lot of jobs currently are. Look at how many websites simply recycle news and filter it to display it to their audience. These jobs would effectivly be removed and AI would simply pull the data in give input on what ones it feels are best but a human element would or should remain in order to spot check and finalize the publishing.

If there's not what happens is too much human interaction is removed and what is known as "hallucinations" happen. Which ultimately mean the AI creates data it thinks is real or doesn't even exist and presents it as truth.

This creates a scenario in which each person then has to decide for themselves what is true and what isn't. This will most likely usher in new more elevated jobs in which the AI will need to be put into check and taught on what is real and not real (at least to the person) I mean it's almost like AI is pulling a 1984 book over our face.

The big issue is these massive AI powerhouses have been unleashed to the world and we are now seeing what massive ramifications that has. It legit only takes one bad person to destroy everything good everyone else is using it for.

The ultimate idea is to understand how to use AI because it's coming and it's here to stay. Those who know how to use it and grow with it will thrive their skillsets while those who do not will be left jobless.

I agree with you that Al can replace some Certain level of jobs.

And as you said, the big issues here is that Al has been unleashed to the world and then now we are now seeing the massive ramifications it has.

And this is going to have a big effect on those who don't have the idea on how to use it.

We hope they don't get jobless at the end.
This is a wonderful post
And I hope to see more of it.

Learning to use AI effectively is perhaps the best way to thrive on this ongoing revolution. On the list above, most of the growing job demands centers around being a specialist in certain domains. Generalists may have to niche down a bit :)

AI, IMHO, will be as smart, efficient and competent as the people who programmed it.

Many new movies, tv shows etc are now being scripted by AI.

And nothing of value was lost. Given how poor 90% of the tv show scripts were pretty much for all of TV, AI can't possibly produce anything worse. Same goes for movies.

AI will be interesting to watch as it develops. People watching will adapt as always, and those who are unwilling to adapt will complain. The only difference this time from prior new technologies is the sheer speed in which change is happening, and this change will only speed up more and more, until even the most adaptable among us will have a hard time keeping up. That will be the challenge.
