To get to Zambujal we must place the following coordinates in our GPS: (38.455232, -9.122463), in reality there are only two ways to get to the village, one is by public transport or using your own vehicle, the village is located in the middle of the nothing and in an area considered a nature reserve! If you look closely at the sign we are more than 30km from Lisbon, Zambujal is located in the southern part of the country and does not belong to Lisbon; I preferred to use the option of taking a set of trails to get here from Seixal so I walked more than 20km🍍🌄
Zambujal has that touch of being an old village that by the way is large because it is divided into lower and upper Zambujal, I would say that to tour the entire village it would take you an hour to tour it from end to end! The architecture varies depending on the site, the further to the coast the houses are more modern and have that modern architecture but when you go to the center of the village you see very old houses that some were built in the 18th century and I even saw some from the 17th century, as well as some abandoned! The village is gaining popularity over time and many tourists shop here because they are close to the Atlantic coast!🧭🌄🍍
You wouldn't believe me while I was walking here looking for that famous hidden place in the middle of Zambujal, I never saw a young person, all the houses I saw were old people, I guess they lived their entire lives here! And of course young people don't see the place as attractive because it is in the middle of nowhere! This makes the village very quiet and an excellent retirement place!👀🧭🌏
I had a lot of work to get to the mysterious place of Zambujal because there are very narrow roads that do not appear on the map and that made my search difficult, I even got lost, if you go to the beaches of Sesimbra you will probably pass through here since in the end On this road there is a famous lighthouse called "Cabo Espichel" and which I already talked about in other of my posts, I recommend you visit it!🍍🚩🌍
The landscape of Zambujal🧭🌍/El paisaje de Zambujal🍍🚩
One of the things you will notice here in Zambujal is the flat landscape that is used by the residents to plant some vegetables, then you will be able to see some boxes where beekeeping is practiced, you will also see some small hills that are natural formations that show how millions of years ago years the coast covered all of Zambujal, it really is a mix of a little bit of everything! In the distance you will see the Serra da Arrabida and other small isolated villages, some more than 400 meters high!🚩🌍🚵♂️
If now in winter the village is beautiful and full of flowers, I can imagine it in spring! I think I'll put it in my diary this year! It will be one of the villages that I will visit when all the plants give flowers. I imagine the environment full of insects and different aromas! Most of the predominant plants are shrubs, by the way I saw a couple of rabbits.👀🧭🌏
Abandoned factory🧭🌍/Fabrica abandonada🍍🚩
Here we are in the lower part of Zambujal, which seems like a very isolated town with few inhabitants. I saw many abandoned houses and of course this factory, which looks like a brick factory, gives that somewhat mysterious touch.🌄👨💻🍍
The mystery of Zambujal discovered🧭🌍/El misterio de Zambujal descubierto🍍🚩
And we arrive, fellow travelers! I finally arrived at the mysterious site that Zambujal hides. It is a set of rocks that are more than 160 million years old. The place is called "PEDREIRA DO AVELINO." On the margins of these lands, some shallow lagoons of fresh and salt water were formed. allowed several species of dinosaurs to use them as routes for rest and feeding! incredible? be able to see some dinosaur footprints here!🤯👨💻🦕🦖
I think that in this account in my first post we visited a wall that had footprints too and there I explained how footprints are formed, so you can also take a look and learn but in short it is because the footprints are marked on the ground and They are then hidden by other layers for millions of years until plate movement exposes them!😎😎
