My friends! Now that we're in the dead city of Penafiel, as the ruins are also known, due to their interesting history! It was here that the Romans lived for more than 500 years, and where great trade routes were created by land and river. Currently, excavations in the area have stopped, and with a total of more than 200 hectares, archaeologists think that not everything has been discovered and that there are more things to bring to light.🚙🌍

Coordinates: Tomb, funerary method📍🌍/ Coordenadas: Tumba, metodo funerario📸
Here we see a necropolis area, which would be a place where people who died were buried. This fact is interesting and we don't see it in the YouTube video, so it's exclusive to the community. The Romans, like other civilizations, practiced burial as the main funerary method. Cremation was not a very common practice, and it was only done in times of war to bring "peace" to a political or military leader.🚙🌍
Residential areas🌍🚙/ Zonas residenciales📍🧭

Within a central core called "public zone" where there were no buildings, urban areas were established all around, which is where the Romans lived from the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD. Here we will see buildings with similarities, since many had divisions where domestic animals were raised and kept.🌍🚙
Here we see an area where people were cremated, afterwards they were placed in a container and products such as food and drinks were added, which for us today would be placing flowers.👨🏻🏫

The Romans had a fairly organized lifestyle, unlike the medieval era when everything was chaotic. For the Romans, everyone had to be productive. Cleanliness was very important to avoid disease, so tombs were far from residential areas, and cities had public baths and separate channels for clean water and sewage, something that was lost in the medieval era when all the rivers were polluted due to poor organization and lack of cleanliness.🚙🌍🌄

Here we see in an area on the outskirts of the residential area some bases with the respective Roman pillars built with a special mixture of cement, granite or marble! These bases served to support areas with high ceilings, it was in front of the main entrance and features designs of animals and human figures.🌏🌍

It's incredible how fortified Mozinho was for its time! Remember that the best wall systems were built in the 11th century during the medieval era, but the Romans had a system of three walls running throughout the area, and the villagers had a hinged gate at the entrance to the city center that could be raised and lowered as needed. Without a doubt, it was an impenetrable city.🌏
public area🌍🚙/ zona publica📍🧭

residential areas and wall⛰️🚩
The public area differed from others due to the absence of construction within the grounds; therefore, we infer that it was an open space where the Romans practiced leisure activities, enjoyment, games, socializing, and even public meetings, announcements, political topics; any type of social event took place here in the center of the city, where a circle is seen in the drone image.🌍📍
