Hello friends addicted to science! Today we will walk through the Conimbrigra museum, a space dedicated to Roman knowledge and history within the region of the Portuguese center, before the Romans inhabited the lands (Celts and Iberians), it is estimated that it was in 700 BC, later in the 3rd century the Greeks, Phoenicians and Carthaginians were the ones who settled in Portugal! however, the Roman civilization would become absolute power from the end of the 2nd century to the 3rd "when Viriato is defeated". Until today there are routes that connected different cities of the country such as (Lisbon-Evora). In this post we will learn a little about the objects that were found in the Conimbriga area, a place that was inhabited by the Romans between the centuries: (IX-VIII).๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“š

Monetary Circulation๐Ÿง ๐ŸŒ/ Circulacion Monetaria๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ”ฌ

Roman weights and measures were calculated using patterns, the pound was one twelfth of an ounce, both were the fundamental values of the economic weight system. The metric unit was the "foot" this in turn was subdivided into six fingers, to perform calculations in time the Romans used two types of clock (water and sun), to weigh the Romans had two types of scales the: (Libra or Talentum) which was of Greek origin and the: (Statera or Trutina) this was created by the Romans themselves, in the early IV century the first balance was perfected using a "brake" system that kept the "faithful" the closest to the center of gravity (Source: Museum)๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿง

The instruments of Roman measures consisted of rulers and graduated compasses, when periods of political crisis approached, either for some major reason or because of some war, the population was advised to keep treasures for days of crisis, which helps us to think about the highly advanced political-economic system of the Romans, in the village where the "conimbriga" excavations were made, several Roman gold coins from the 3rd century were found, which tells us that at that time there was an economic crisis, later in other jars they were also found coins of the third century.

We know that the Romans immortalized their main historical figures by means of busts, which until today many survived, normally they were created to remember some emperor or historical figure, some rich merchants from high society had their busts, then we have here some tombstones๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿง

We all think that the Romans from the beginning of time cremated the dead but this practice was only common between the 1st and 2nd centuries before they were buried, and they were subjected to various rituals, actually the Romans had different practices to watch over their beings loved ones from the famous decoration of the nun in the eyes and mouth to a washing and cleaning preparation, but a Roman was forbidden to bury a loved one within the city! It was forbidden since his body was "a polluting agent" so there were specific places outside the city! however the "tombstones" were placed in various places to remember the history.๐Ÿง ๐Ÿšฉ

Social class also played an important role when carrying out a funeral ritual, and that is that the richest could make highly decorated and ornate headstones and tombs, while the poor could only bury their dead in very precarious wooden boxes.๐Ÿง ๐Ÿšฉ
๐Ÿง ๐Ÿšฉ

Decoration and ornament๐Ÿง ๐ŸŒ/ Decoracion y ornamento๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿ“š

During the Roman Empire, jewelry was something that became very important to such an extent that it represented power and hierarchical positioning just as it happens in our time! Roman women wore two earrings and both men and women could wear several gold or silver rings on their fingers, the bracelets were made of different materials and many were normally found in the city of Conimbriga, this tells us that many people lived here. powerful! Glass and other materials that adorned the city were already being manufactured since the Iron Age.

Prepared for war๐Ÿง ๐ŸŒ/ Preparado para la guerra๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿ“š
