Porto Planetarium🧠🧭👨‍🎓 / Planetario de Porto🌌🪐(En-Es)

Hello science addicts, on this day I visited the Porto planetarium to further expand my knowledge about astronomy, this space belongs to the University of Porto and was created in 1998. Professor Teresa Lago was one of the visionaries in the astronomical study of Portugal and their knowledge are reflected here in this educational unit for the general public! This morning you are going to learn with me some interesting topics of astronomy so make yourself comfortable and enjoy this space trip.🌌🪐

The main objective of this astronomy museum is to promote scientific culture in the Portuguese population, especially for children with school projects. For the scientist Teresa, realizing this dream took more than ten years, since she had first dedicated her life to the "Centro de Astrofisica de Porto". ". All of her works have been recognized worldwide, therefore Teresa Lago is proud and represents the Portuguese woman scientist! When I arrived at the facilities, I had a good impression. The museum is small but loaded with interesting information. For example, I didn't know that the sun was 0.2 and 3.0 micrometers and that they are short waves.🕵️‍♂️🌌

Thanks to the support of the Porto government, this astronomy center was the first in Portugal to acquire a mobile astronomy unit, the project began in 1990 and they already had a modified van to take a high-range telescope to all schools, this without a doubt It would change the way children are educated, because for the first time in the country's history, youngsters were taught basic concepts about astronomy for the first time in their lives, the astronomy center has already educated more than 250,000 children to date, including the poorest in the center and islands of the country.🧠🚩

The municipal chamber of Porto had already built the space that would be used as teaching, the most important thing was still missing: recreate the universe in a controlled closed space and for that the astronomical museum acquired a special projector to project the solar system and be able to teach children and adults as the galaxy is arranged, the projector bears the name: "optomecânico Carl Zeiss". We have the privilege of seeing the projector live along with its history and its mechanical parts when we walk through the facilities!🧭🕵️‍♂️🧠

Goals of the Porto Planetarium🧠/ Objetivos del planetario de porto🪐🕵️‍♂️

teach without limits🧠👧👦

promote active and knowledgeable citizens in the astronomical-scientific field, challenge the public on new experiences using state-of-the-art technology, train curious citizens, creative in critical thinking about the universe around us! encourage schools for outdoor activities using the mobile van to teach basic astronomy concepts.🪐

When I think I know a lot...🧠/ Cuando pienso que se mucho...🪐🕵️‍♂️

I am one of the people who are curious to learn new things every day, well... I am a scientist for a reason, and with my years of experience in astronomy I learned that we can never underestimate a scientific didactic space even if it seems to be quite limited and simple, you I will ask a question What are the chances of touching a meteorite? Let's say that more than 95% of the world's population will never touch a meteorite in their lives, and today I was lucky enough to be able to touch a fragment that was named dead cow, this meteorite It was found at the end of the 18th century in the Chilean desert, weighing more than 3 tons, the fragments were distributed to various universities in the world.🧠🌌🪐

I loved this part because the children release a ball in this scenario that recreates the orbit of a black hole, we know that these black holes are parts in space that are there and that they contain a lot of mass inside, which creates an orbit around of them that swallow everything. Have you seen how one works? probably in movies yes but I assure you that in real life no! And of course this is another important value that the planetarium has, it has many educational activities!🌏🕵️‍♂️🪐

In line with technological evolution and best international professional practices, the Lisbon Planetarium is a modern space. In 2014, several renovations were carried out in the space to create a more educational environment, so one of the improvements was to disarm the system. optomechanical, which is that device that you see blue, and instead a more realistic digitized system supplied by the best European companies was replaced! all the chairs inside the planetarium were changed to a direction so that all users have the same field of vision! the projection screen system is the most advanced in Portugal.🥼🥽🔭

On that day we were lucky that the moon was full and it was visible during the day, so they gave a quick demonstration of how filters work and how they help to see objects in the sky when our vision is limited.🧠🌌

The new millennium opened the doors to Portuguese technology, in the year 2000 Portugal finally joined the commission: (ESO): "Southern European right of observation", cataloged the largest international astronomy organization! So far Portugal has already contributed more than 1,000 scientific journals with astronomical contributions and finally Portugal contributes better knowledge to astronomy to better understand our galaxy. The planetarium receives a record visit of more than 30,000 tourists and schools per anus! And this figure is increasing every time because the population is showing in each generation a greater interest in learning about space! And this is all thanks to museums and scientific centers like this one!🧠🌌
