If you've been following my blog for years, you know I'm achieving several goals! One of them is being the first Maracaibo native to document ALL OF PORTUGAL, starting with its castles. Now I bring you a package of places to visit in Sintra if you come as a tourist. In my previous post, we visited the "Castelo dos Mouros," a place that, like the palace, is frequently visited. With the "Palacio da Pena" completed, we only have "Quinta da Regaleira" left.😍🚩

I'm leaving you the link to the trail you can find on this popular Portuguese website so you can visit both the castle and the palace. The walk alone will take you about two hours, but visiting both places could take more than 5 hours. You don't need to bring water and food because there's a cafe in the palace where you can buy things.🚩🗺️

Okay, here are the coordinates and location of the Palace. However, there's no way to get lost because you can easily find it on Google Maps. Now, this information is important: (38.787937, -9.387444). This is where the trail begins, and it's what my post is about! Don't forget to write down the coordinates; you'll thank me later because walking along the street to the palace is AWFUL.🏔️🛺

My first experience in a TUK TUK haha this transport system is very popular in Sintra and you can use it both to go up or down to the palace, or you can, like I did, pay the person a fee and they will take you around the historic center. Prices vary and can be expensive as well as cheap. My advice is to always haggle because when they are going uphill empty, for them: "any money is profit".😍🛺

My walk started from the bp "Ramalhao" gas station. From here to the Palace it's just under 40 minutes, almost 3km. It's an easy walk that you can do with the whole family except for people with disabilities, since there's a section in the forest walk that requires a bit of physical exertion. From here we'll pass through the village: "São Pedro de Penaferrim" which we explained in more detail in my previous video, and we even visited the church.🛺😍

We have to recognize that if we take away Sintra's forest and ecosystem, NOTHING REMAINS; it would be just another part of the Lisbon district. But the forest is what makes Sintra special; its microclimate makes it so humid, and that's why we can find more than 900 identified plant species throughout the area.🏰🛺

The "Palacio da Pena" was built in the 12th century during the Reconquista era. A chapel was built here that still stands today. Later, in the 19th century, some kings of Portugal acquired the lands of Sintra and ordered the construction of the palace so that the royalty could live here, and this continued until the end of the monarchy in the 20th century.🚩🏕️

The castle is beautiful, so different from the ones I'm used to seeing. Around here, they're all made of stone, boring, and this one in Sintra is an explosion of colour and delicacy with its ceramic covering. It looks more like a recreational palace than a fortress. The trail is another marvel, very similar to those I've seen in other mountainous areas. The moss-covered stones and logs invite you to dream of legends about souls wandering around. I wouldn't want to get lost on it at night, haha. I think if I were to do this excursion, I would split it into two days to better enjoy the climb to the top on one day and the monument on the other. Thank you also for all the advice you give; I'm sure there will be future tourists who will take advantage of it.

That's an incredible trip in nature with your experience in TUK TUK, 40 km from the city, should be like this with the raw nature. And the Palace is also spectacular, and surroundings are so cool to explore. Thanks for sharing your great trip with us. Keep up the great work.

The way you describe the route from São Pedro de Penaferrim, along with your personal tips and notes about the surrounding forest, really brings the journey to life. It’s the kind of trail that seems to reward slow exploration, and your reflections make it even more tempting to experience it firsthand.
