Nuevo Hobby desbloqueado🌄🚩 / New Hobby Unlocked👨🏻‍🏫🌷 (En-Es)

Hello friends, thanks for visiting my blog! Today I went out on a trail in search of an orchid that I read on the internet that apparently blooms at the end of January and already in February we see it quite common in the landscapes of Portugal, in reality this plant is common throughout the Mediterranean, while I wait for the others to bloom, which mostly do so in the month of April, I want to map the entire area where I live to learn more about the preferred ecosystem where it grows: (Barlia robertiana).🚩🌄

I started walking towards the protected reserve of Arrabida, which I had not yet seen any wild orchids in the area, while walking I noticed that the ground did not have a layer of organic matter as is common and instead the sand is fine and white (beach) sand, which leads me to think was it placed here intentionally? or millions of years ago the coast was here? both theories could be correct, one of the things I noticed in the landscape is the presence of: (Carpobrotus edulis) a creeping plant that is from Africa and is INVASIVE, unfortunately it is a serious problem in Portugal as it displaces native species from our beaches.🧭🌍

In my other outings I have not yet found an orchid in this type of ecosystem, so I can simply rule out that in this area I cannot, at least in winter between January and February, look here (Barlia robertiana).⛰️🚩

Now I passed by an area next to the dirt road under the trees where the sun is not direct and I found (Macrolepiota procera) and (Chlorophyllum), these mushrooms can reach a diameter of 30cm and flower in seasons between April to autumn, which leaves me with the doubt of the identification since we are in winter, with the subjects of mushrooms I prefer never to identify 100% a species to avoid problems with the readers, I do not want to say: "this is edible" and someone trust my description and make a mistake, in the meantime we all consider them toxic.🌷🌍

(Deconica coprophila) demonstrated in this image that nature does not need absolutely anything to grow, it is nice to see how it managed to grow inside a dried fruit of the pineiro tree, these species are common at this time of year due to the rain and humidity, normally in summer we see very few mushrooms in this reserve which is extremely hot.

While I was walking I was looking for a route that was far from the pedestrian path, to see if where there were fewer people passing by there was a better chance of finding (Barlia robertiana) suddenly I came across a fence that did not allow the passage of transport because it was another sensitive reserve area, I thought... could it be that here the environment meets the conditions? Let's see...👨🏻‍🏫🌍

I was reading my book on wild orchids from Portugal when I discovered that the species I am looking for is edible, that is, its bulb can be eaten. I had no idea that part of the orchid was edible. Is there any special dish made with it? I have never seen anything like it.🌍

It is definitely one of my favorite landscapes of the entire hike and I see that the landscape is quite different, we see many climbing plants and many species of humidity, lichens, fungi, etc! It is like another microclimate, it actually feels colder in here, maybe because I am close to a mountain.🌍🚩

I haven't seen any type of orchids around here yet, actually very few substrate plants... I think this area is not ideal for (Barlia robertiana) either because the soil seems too humid, there is a lot of mud and small pools of water, and according to the description the orchid prefers a "dry to humid" environment, it doesn't say very humid.👨🏻‍🏫🚩

First sighting of orchid🗺️⛰️/Primer avistamiento de orquidea🌍🧭

BeFunky-collage (63).jpg

IMG_6295.JPG

Near the (Erica vagans) bushes I saw my first orchid plant, and it was clearly a (Barlia robertiana). I discovered that it is the same ecosystem, only in this area where I saw it there are no large trees, no shade, on the contrary it grows among bushes and in drier terrain, as the bibliographical reference says, this terrain is mountainous, which is possibly why it is calcareous.👨🏻‍🏫🌷

I have already identified the species and finally located an individual of (Barlia robertiana), this specimen is barely flowering, it is not fully developed, I am at 80 meters high and it seems that it prefers lower terrain, however the species has been sighted at more than 1700 meters, so we say that it has a wide distribution.👨🏻‍🏫🧭

BeFunky-collage (67).jpg

As we can see, the land is quite particular, there are no large trees around, the only place I found it is a few hectares that were clearly worked by people to create paths, which tells us that: (Barlia robertania) is very selective in the land free of trees, could it be so as not to compete with other trees for the sun? Coincidence? That question is more difficult to answer.🧭👨🏻‍🏫

Luckily for me, a few kilometers further on I saw many orchids without flowering, only leaves, but I got this beautiful adult specimen, according to my reference book: (Jose Brites, 2016) "literally he says, a very rare plant" when I read that it immediately explains why it is so difficult to get it in the nature reserve, practically we should see this orchid with flowers until April.🧭⛰️
