Start of the trail🧭🚩 /Inicio del sendero🌎🗺️

This is a customized trail by me and of course it's my first time doing it, it has a medium difficulty level in winter or spring in summer because of the weather it is a challenge, you will not want to be in the middle of these desert forests at more than 40 degrees, the beginning of the trail is at the following coordinate: (38.460141, -9.019530) as a reference point you should locate a wooden gate which you can pass through without problem, this is a public nature reserve. You have to have a certain level of experience so as not to get lost because there are quite a few paths that will divert you to your objective, for now we follow the path with a red mark.🧭🌳

The adventure begins🧭🚩 /Comienza la aventura 🌎🗺️

To get to Setubal there are several roads you can take, from the national road to the highway, the difference is that on the last one you pay a toll and it's faster, the other one is free but usually it has traffic on weekends, I instead parked my car here and walked, it's many kilometers to get to the start of the trail, while I exercise to warm up and prepare my legs since the road is slippery and hard on this trail! The village of "Fernao ferro" which is where I started walking doesn't have anything interesting so I don't recommend spending too much time here. However, if you love handicrafts here you can get a great variety of windmills to decorate your house.🧭🚵🏻‍♀️

National 379-1📸

After leaving "Fernao Ferro" behind we enter the famous national street 379-1, this literally goes through the entire natural mountain range, it even takes you to the mountains, as you can see it has some numbers next to it that indicate the kilometers of the beginning or end of the road, if you continue straight ahead you will reach the center of Setubal, clearly we do not want to go there and instead we look for the wooden door on the right that is at the coordinates: (38.460141, -9.019530) and there the trail begins, as I told you you have to be careful because you can go too far.🧭📸

There are dozens of trails throughout the mountain, some more difficult than others, and there is even one that you have to climb 600 meters called "Formosinho" literally I know the whole area by heart, but this is the first time I've done this route, I always alternate them to discover new things and to make the walks more difficult. This route that I'm going to do is quite busy in summer because of the weather and the beaches, but few people dare to walk through these mountains.🚵🏻‍♀️📸

Biodiversity🌳🌷 /Biodiversidad🌎🗺️

The high summer climates do not invite us to observe a great variety of insects and plants due to the high temperatures, however we can still see some plants that bear fruit at the beginning of summer such as berries, Garcinia sp, pines, among others! I have to tell you that without a doubt the best time to visit the reserve is in spring, however at night there is a lot of animal activity, predominantly wild boars, owls, foxes.🌳🌷

I haven't reached the start of the trail yet and so far everything seems calm and easy. We're on the side of the road, just be careful with the cars that pass by at high speed. This area has many accidents because many people who ride motorbikes drive without caution. To my right is this mountain that belongs to "Arrabida" which in turn belongs to Setubal. We haven't reached the wooden gate yet. Enjoy the scenery though.📸🚵🏻‍♀️

Ready, we arrived at the famous gate that indicates where we must cross to enter the path, after here it is always in front, and you know to follow the red spot that will later be changed by some red and white pieces of cloth, what will happen now is that we will begin to descend because we are more than 200 meters above sea level.📸🚵🏻‍♀️

We can see the sea🌳📸 /Podemos ver el mar🌎🗺️

When we start to go down these super narrow dirt roads we will reach a height where we will see the Atlantic Ocean, and it is a good sign because we are in the right direction. Be very careful where you step, it is quite dangerous because the ground comes loose easily. I recommend that you do the trail with hiking poles and boots.🚵🏻‍♀️🗺️

Half way📸

When we see this landscape we are already halfway there and of course we will enter more and more into the forest to the point of not being able to see the ocean anymore, and instead we will have the beautiful view of the "Jasper" mountains which has the viewpoint where the trail ends.🧭📸

We arrived at the "Mata do Solitario"🌳📸 /llegamos a la "Mata do solitario" 🌎🗺️

It was incredible how the landscape changed when we entered the reserve. The road turned red, I suppose it is some kind of clayey sand, and we no longer see the granite rocks, also too many bushes with thorns and pines, we can no longer see the sea. I made a small stop to hydrate and eat.👨🏻‍🦯🗺️

Let's follow the directions 🤍❤️/Sigamos las indicaciones🌎🗺️

The path is now much more difficult and it is easy to get lost, but we have these signs that will help us get to the viewpoint, two red and white pieces of cloth that we will follow to the end.🚵🏻‍♀️🤍

Arrival at Jasper Lookout🚵🏻‍♀️/Llegada al mirador Jasper🌎🗺️

And here my adventure ends, friends! It was a short walk of just under 5km and not very physically demanding, but I really enjoyed the scenery and I hope you do too.👨🏻‍🦯🚵🏻‍♀️
