Portugal has a great diversity of ecosystems, all of them host a large number of species! From the laurel forest to the dunes in Figueira da Foz, what surprises me most about the country is that we have a qualification and we know the importance of these forests but none of them are properly protected! The city of Qta do Conde has a landscape that seems to come out of a science fiction movie, when you see it you even get the impression that it is snow! My curiosity led me to visit it and what do you think???

How to find the "white sands of Qta do Conde"๐ฉ๐/Como localizar las "arenas blancas de qta do conde"๐๐ฉ

I leave you the coordinates of this fantastic and strange place: (38.572049, -9.027779) to access it you have to be careful because there is an area that is private so you must get here by alternative roads, I recommend from the "Da Varzea" forest which is worth it because it has a very interesting ecosystem, to get to the "white sands" you can only walk and it has an extension of 2km so 40 minutes is enough to get there.

Forests not only bring benefits to us! Not only do they provide oxygenation to the planet, they help with water filtration and refresh the environment! They are also home to dozens or hundreds of species of plants and animals with "arboreal" characteristics; the sum of the environmental conditions also helps the presence of millions of microorganisms.

Here we see some burrows, possibly of rabbits or birds that build their nests on the ground! Sometimes these "nests" are natural paths where various animals travel in search of shelter, food or water.

I think that nobody can accept that arson is something normal. In Portugal, every year we see more and more hectares of forests and natural reserves consumed by political issues, and of course the forest of "Da Varzea" was one of the many affected. I don't see any biologist or competent body making a scientific publication to estimate the ecological loss of this forest! How can we ignore this situation? If nobody does anything, at least I will spread the word through HIVE.

I was reading and from what I understand, 80% of all forests on the planet are home to more than 62 thousand species of trees and other types of plants, and that in turn amphibians benefit from this, therefore we will find more than 80% of amphibian species taking refuge in a forest! More than 70% of bird species live in a forest and 68% are some mammals! Seeing these statistics we understand how important a forest is on the planet.

The "Da Varzea" forest is a small nature reserve in the city center that functions as a place of learning and admiration of local nature. It has a small 1.5km trail to learn about the ecological aspects that develop in the nature of "qta do conde", it is like a "natural lung" in the middle of the city. If you want to visit it, it is open at all hours.

The Mediterranean Basin๐๐ท/La Cuenca del Mediterraneo๐จ๐ปโ๐ซ๐ฉ

Normally nobody knows the meaning of the Mediterranean basin and it is the extension of forest that extends from Portugal to Jordan. It has more than two million kilometers and is so rich in plant biodiversity that it houses 10% of the plant species on the entire planet. Of the 25,000 species, more than 10,000 are endemic, meaning they are unique to the area! In this reserve there is an insect that was recently discovered to be endemic. Crazy, right?

There is a very interesting fact and that is that Portugal is the 10th country that covers the largest part of the Mediterranean basin. In fact, 20% of the Portuguese territory belongs to the Mediterranean basin. Portugal has 2% of the species of plants and animals that exist in the world.

White sands๐๐ท/Arenas blancas๐จ๐ปโ๐ซ๐ฉ

After arriving at the place! I had the feeling that it was an artificial area and that man had placed something here, and yes!!! It is NOT an ecosystem like the planet Mars, it is white sand which is used for the manufacture of glass! Then a new doubt arose in me, is this polluting?

I read that the white sand used for the glass manufacturing industry has repercussions on nature. First, it molds and alters the ecosystem where it is placed, even changing the pH of the soil since it is brought from other places such as beaches. Notice that where the sand is, nothing else grows except trees. Curious, isn't it? And everything around is green! This already tells us that something is not right!
