Hello adventurous friends, today I bring a quite medieval post and it is that I traveled more than 150km to the village of Evoramonte to visit one of the most iconic castles in the country, first for its slightly more "modern" structure, but in reality the main one. The attraction of the Castle is the history that is housed here, it was here where two kings of Portugal met to sign a peace treaty (Concession of Evoramonte) to end the liberal war between the two of them. How about we take a tour of the village and the castle and also see some Moorish architecture.
Why visit Evoramonte?๐งญ๐ฐ / Por que visitar Evoramonte?
Evoramonte are one of those villages that have a little bit of everything to spend an unforgettable vacation, first in the surroundings just under 30 minutes away you have some rivers which you can use to swim or practice water sports, then within the fortified village there are hotels, restaurants, plenty economical, and to add an interesting plus, the climate in Evora is quite hot. If you come from a Nordic country in search of heat, then Evoramonte has everything you need.

Access and transportation๐งญ๐ฐ / Accesos y transportes๐๐ฉ
The bad news is that the village of Evoramonte has transport but in the center and not here in the fortified village so yes or if you need personal transport, the roads are good and you can take the N18 or alternative roads, you can only enter the village through the north or south door. Normally these isolated villas in Evora are economical.
Legacy of the Moors๐งญ๐ฐ / Legado de los Moros๐๐ฉ
After the Romans abandoned Portugal for hundreds of years, the Moors were the ones who occupied the country, especially in the south, since the nation was established from the limit of Lisbon to the north to Guimaraes, therefore in order to reconquer the country they had to expel themselves and fight against the Moors, and that would happen from the 11th and 12th centuries, however when we visited the town of Entremonte we could still get objects, culture and architecture from the Moors, in reality the name of Evora and almost all the names of Portugal are of Arabic origin .
"Sao Pedro de Fora" church
My first stop is at this beautiful church called: "Sรฃo Pedro" which already had some small buildings in the 16th century which served more as an altar than anything else, later only the church was built as you see it in the photo in In 1910, for people not to have to go to the center of Evoramonte, the Catholic Church built their own church here, despite being very new, it still has those medieval touches and is worth visiting, in front is the cemetery.

Cemetery where those honored from the great war rest๐งญ๐ฐ / Cementerio donde descansan los honrados de la gran guerra๐๐ฉ
Portugal was neutral in the Second World War like Spain, but the same did not happen in the first, and villages like Evoramonte were places where family men left their homes to be able to fight alongside the allies! Tens of thousands of Portuguese lives were lost to the point that many of these villages were left without men and instead only boys, girls and women were seen so it took a long time to repopulate, the cemetery is something you have to visit to see graves of people from the 18th century and even the tomb of those who fell in the war. MY RESPECTS.
Between the streets of the town๐งญ๐ฐ / Entre las calles de la villa ๐๐ฉ
The change in architecture between areas is impressive, sometimes we have the feeling that we are traveling in the time of the Moors and other times in the medieval era, do you remember my last post on the medieval village where I stayed in "brotas"? Well, I remember that there they still had medieval doors in some houses, but here it is different, they all have their original doors of course restored, in fact I have the impression that this has been the most original town I have visited so far.
Monte evora swing๐งญ๐ฐ / Columpio Monte evora๐๐ฉ
The swing is a must-see on our tour because they are fashionable throughout Portugal as they are symbols of beauty and height, literally swings are being built in the highest areas to boost tourism and decorate the landscape, it says the following: " "Evoramonte a mountain of emotions." It is worth it for the landscape and the breeze here is pleasant, inside the town there is only a breeze in the castle, the rest is cut off by the wall.
The peace treaty was signed here๐งญ๐ฐ / Aqui se firmo el tratado de paz๐๐ฉ
A war called "War of the Liberals" occurred, let's say it was an internal conflict between royalty where two brothers, heirs to the crown, who belonged to different political parties, confronted each other. The end of that war took place in this house where that one is. white sign and signed in the Castle.

Evoramonte Castle๐งญ๐ฐ / Castillo de Evoramonte๐๐ฉ
I do not want to repeat the information in the video, if you want to know the history of the Castle, I explained it in the video, to summarize we are seeing a fortress that belonged to the Moors in the 11th, 12th century and that later in the reconquest wars was recovered exactly in 1248, that Arabic legacy is still present in much of the architecture of our country. You do not need permission to fly the drone here but be careful.

What should you know about the castle?๐งญ๐ฐ / Que debes saber del castillo?
architecture๐ฐ๐
The castle is free so don't worry about having coins or money, but be careful with the operating hours, better check the schedule in Gmaps, there is a girl at the entrance who will welcome you and could clarify any questions in addition to giving you a brochure To know the history of the castle, from here you are on your own, the castle, if I'm not mistaken, has 5 floors, is quite high, was clearly restored and has that architectural mix of all periods from the 12th century to the present day. There is nothing electrical and people with disabilities cannot reach the roof.
