Montemor-o-Novo Castle is located in the Alentejo region of Portugal, a few kilometers from Évora! This area comprises a plain that has been inhabited by different cultures for centuries. It is believed that at some point prehistoric humans may have moved here and lived in caves or small stone houses—amazing, isn't it? To reach this town, you must use your own vehicle, as public transportation is limited.🚩🏔️

History of the Castle🏰🌍/ Historia del castillo📍🧭

first walls 2nd century BC🌍🚩
As I mentioned in the video, the first wall built around the castle was during Roman times, in the 2nd century AD; however, there is archaeological evidence that an older civilization may have built walls where the castle now stands, possibly dating from the 3rd-2nd century BC, perhaps from some Lusitanians.🌍📍

The Romans were the ones who boosted trade in Montemor-o-Novo, as they built a fairly complex road system. One of the main products traded at that time was fish extracted from the "Tejo River," and to be able to transport this product throughout Hispania, roads or stone causeways in good condition and safe were necessary, and exactly where the castle is located there is a road that connects Evora and Merida, Spain.⛺😍

You can pilot the drone without any problem, but you can't go higher than 120 meters. Be careful not to launch it when there are others nearby. It's recommended to request permission from ANAC so you have the sky to yourself, as they are in charge of regulating drone use.🚩

The beautiful views of the castle from above are incredible; who would have thought that the Arabs also knew how to take advantage of these hills, which by the way is the highest point of Montemor-o-Novo and built a fortress where the Roman ones used to be.🏰🧭

Later, during the Reconquista, King Dinis brought Portuguese troops, possibly from Lisbon, to continue the conquest of the lands that rightfully belonged to us. Let us remember that the Arabs arrived on the peninsula; they did not always live here! After seizing the lands in the 12th century, the castle was fortified.🧭🏰
After the medieval era🏰🌍/ Luego de la era medieval📍🧭

After the 1755 earthquake, the castle was badly damaged and was repaired in the 18th century. It withstood the Napoleonic invasion, so the castle was used in various war situations and even in the independence, until in the mid and late nineties it was transformed into a museum and national heritage site.🧭😍

What a great challenge. I love seeing the castle posts and yes agree that catching them all would be quite an accomplishment! Subscribed to the youtube channel and love seeing them all in one place like that!
Thanks, my dear friend, always for the support! Well, the idea is to keep innovating and investing in other networks as well. I suppose when I have thousands of followers, it'll be a good opportunity to promote Hive, although I'm already doing that! And yes, I think I'm less than 15 castles away from reaching my goal, which, by the way, many of those visits are registered in the drone community.
