Hello friends addicted to science, growing algae is something that requires a lot of technical patience and knowledge of microbiology, and for the first time I enter the world of creating an artificial system to cultivate algae in optimal conditions for its growth, even though red algae are the species. "Haematococcus pluvialis" is actually a green algae with a high content of "astaxanthin" which in turn is rich in carotenes, therefore giving it that very beautiful bright red color, however we must know that the main objective of the algae when secreting the Astaxanthin is to protect your "photosystem" What do you think if you join me in this experience??👨💻🙇♂️🔬
My home experiment🔬🧠/ Mi experimento casero📚🥽
I took the water sample from a small puddle in a rainwater deposit area where wastewater probably reaches. The water is fresh and was around 20 degrees in normal environmental conditions. When I brought it to my small laboratory, I subjected the algae to various conditions. environmental conditions such as temperatures ranging from 22 degrees to 26-27 degrees. Temperature is important in the growth of this algae, which resists 22-27 degrees. To increase the level of "pollution" and nutrients in the water, I added several drops of fertilizer. of algae that is rich for the growth of green algae. I measured the temperature daily with a homemade thermometer, and with strips to measure water parameters I managed to bring the water to the conditions I needed.🙇♂️👨💻🧠🌏

This is a summary of what the experience was like and how the algae evolved within the artificial system. As you can see, it was a seven-day experiment where the color of the water varied due to the growth of the algae and the nutrients added to the water. The first days the water was at a temperature of 22.5 degrees and as the days passed the temperature increased until reaching days 5-7 where the water was at 26.4 degrees, so we see that the warmer the Temperatures grew faster and we can see the bubbles that are actually colonies of thousands or millions of algae, something I noticed was that the conjugated and unicellular green algae appeared more in initial conditions with not as many nutrients as the days went by they disappeared! I think it could be inferred because they did not receive direct sunlight naturally and the lamp was not enough for them to carry out their photosynthesis processes.⚗🌏🧠
Here we see some species that were predominant during the first days when the temperature was around 22-24 degrees and little nutrient added to the water, as you can see, many of them are common in waters with a high level of solar incidence and stagnant contaminated water, however they left. disappearing, I suppose due to the lack of capacity to receive natural sun and the lamp was not enough to keep them alive! However, at this point the environment was very favorable for my Haematococcus pluvialis, which, despite also being a green algae, is very resistant, so much so that injecting large concentrations of alcohol incredibly did not destroy them.🕵️♀️🔬👨💻🥽

Occurrence of Haematococcus pluvialis🔬🧠/ Aparición de Haematococcus pluvialis📚🥽
Haematococcus pluvialis is a true survival green algae, when conditions are not favorable it enters a "cyst" state there it produces high concentrations of astaxanthin, this carotene helps protect the algae from ultraviolet rays and I wonder if I should use the UV lamp 24 hours a day. per day did the algae enter that phase? It could be... Other records determine that astaxanthin produces when there are no nutrients in the environment or there is little water, I don't think nutrients because it regularly uses oxygen and fertilizers, they are not common in warm or tropical climates, on the contrary, they are from temperate zones and They form in ponds!🥽📚🙇♂️

The description of the alga is characteristic for being biflagellar, it is clolophyte because it contains both types of chlorophyll a and b, the white substance that surrounds it that looks like a "slime" is the starch it produces as a reserve substance, it can reproduce both sexually and asexually. It is so resistant that it has resistance to antibiotics such as "ampicillin". According to reports, this species has been recorded on all continents of the planet except Antarctica! She is a true survivor!🌏🙇♂️📚

On the seventh day we see millions of algae that are in their "cyst" state. It seems that too much sunlight makes them turn red. It was a quite interesting experience. We can also see the whiteness of the bottom due to the starch used to consume it when the conditions of water are not favorable!🌏🕵️♀️📚
