Good morning, friends! I'm stopping by this supercommunity today to leave you a new post. We're going for a hike in a section of the "Serra do Gaitero" region, a protected natural area in the Arrabida region. I'd like to identify some of the plant species that predominate in the area. We'll also be able to see a 2,000-year-old Roman road. I hope you enjoy my nature experience.🚩🧭

About: "Serra do Gaitero"🌍🚩/ Sobre la: "Serra do Gaitero"🗺️🧭

On one occasion we passed through the "Do Gaitero" mountain range, located at the following coordinates: 38° 33′ 22.73″ N, 8° 54′ 26.78″ O as the highest point: 226 metres, it is normal that if you are in Palmela or Sesimbra and you do some of the most important trails like GR11 E9 you will have to pass through this mountain range, it stands out for its wild nature, barely seeing a maximum of ten houses inhabiting the area, it is not allowed to sell land for urban construction, so those already built here will be the last. An area of peace, calm and good energy, ideal for connecting with nature.🏔️🚩

That mountain in the background, the furthest away, is called: São Lourenço, at the top there is a forest lookout post, we already made a post there at more than 500 meters high with the best views towards Setubal and the Atlantic, the hike that I will do today with some detours you can reach the top of all those mountains, I will continue on my own without following any trail just to explore new things, that mountain range is only 12 km from the coastal city of Setubal and the face that points south you have beautiful beaches like "Portinho da Arrábida" the busiest on the southern edge of Lisbon.🚩🏔️

For many years, people have known how to take advantage of natural resources to create quite creative architecture. Something I love about Palmela is that many houses, shops, and buildings maintain their original medieval format from when they were built on the mountain stones.🏔️📍

As we enter the mountains, the landscape is different. We begin to see the rocky, clayey, reddish soil, ideal for a great biodiversity of species. We have already created posts where we located more than 5 species of orchids in the spring season. We are entering summer, where temperatures are around 30 degrees, making it more difficult to see animals or insects.🌍📍

Roman road📍🌍
We have already visited many Roman roads in Portugal, some better preserved than others, this one here does not have the stones, but it is known that it was a trade route used by the Romans to travel south from Setubal, it also had a connection with Palmela🌍👩🏻🏫

A beautiful tour through the nature of Arrabida. As you can see, we were able to identify some species of plants typical of the Iberian Peninsula. Personally, I'm not an expert in botany, so I can't give many descriptions of flowers. However, if botany is your passion, I recommend visiting the "Do Gaitero" mountain range and experiencing it astonishingly.👩🏻🏫🚙
