Today I went out on a new trail. This time, I'm going to complete a small section of Sesimbra along the coast until I reach an abandoned fort. I'll try to find the ruins of an old Christian image that fishermen used to pray to before going out to sea! I don't know if I'll find it, but I took the opportunity to exercise and show you this beautiful scenery!📍🚙

I think just one picture like this is worth the hike, but wow! Now in summer, this is another level; it is brutally hot, like a natural oven. You have to be in top physical condition, or you might faint. Now I understand why I'm the only crazy person hiking in this area. But changing the subject, isn't the view of the Atlantic beautiful?🚙📍🌏

Creo que solo por una imagen como esta ya vale la pena hacer la caminata, ¡pero ufffffffffffff! Ahora en verano esto es otro nivel; hace un calor brutal, es como un horno natural. Tienen que tener una excelente condición física o puede que se desmayen, y ahora entiendo por qué soy el único loco haciendo senderismo por este terreno. Pero cambiando de tema, ¿no es hermosa la vista del Atlántico?⛵👩🏻‍🦯🚩

The trail started from here in a small village called Casal de Azoia, which, as you may have noticed, is characterized by being quite rural, and its inhabitants live off farming. I was surprised, haha, to see a man working his land in the blazing sun. Obviously, I haven't yet reached the ravine area where the real heat is.🌏📍

Desde aquí partió el sendero, en una pequeña aldea llamada Casal de Azoia que, como pudiste notar, se caracteriza por ser bastante rural y vivir de la siembra. Me sorprendió, jaja, ver a un señor trabajando su tierra con tanto sol. Obviamente, aún no llego a la zona del barranco, donde está el verdadero calor.🚙🗺️

After a couple of kilometers, I stopped to replenish my energy. I haven't mentioned it until now, but it's a 12 km walk to reach the coast where the beach and the abandoned fort are located. I took the opportunity to drink water and refresh myself. I'm in "Aldeia do Meco," another fairly isolated rural village.🙇🏻‍♀️📸

No te lo había comentado hasta ahora, pero son 12 km los que tengo que caminar hasta llegar a la costa, donde están la playa y el fuerte abandonado. Aproveché para tomar agua y refrescarme. Now comes an interesting change of scenery, and we come across a small Mediterranean forest where pines and ferns predominate due to the hot climate. You can also see some eucalyptus trees, and I emphasize this area because later you will see how the landscape changes as we approach the ocean; we will practically only see shrubs.📸🙇🏻‍♀️

Ahora viene un cambio interesante de paisaje, y nos topamos con un pequeño bosque mediterráneo donde los pinos y los helechos predominan ante el clima tan caluroso. También se pueden ver algunos eucaliptos, y hago énfasis en esta zona porque más adelante verán cómo cambia el paisaje a medida que nos aproximamos al océano: prácticamente solo veremos arbustos.🚙🚩

Among the predominant vegetation, we highlight Convolvulus fernandesii, Euphorbia pedroi, and many aromatic species that grow at ground level. My favorite part is walking among this short vegetation with its different smells and the view of the ocean; we also highlight some seabirds.🌏📍

Entre la vegetación predominante destacamos: Convolvulus fernandesii, Euphorbia pedroi y muchas especies aromáticas que crecen a ras del suelo. Mi parte favorita es caminar entre esta corta vegetación con diferentes olores y la vista al océano; también destacamos algunas aves marinas.👩🏻‍🦯🗺️

🚩 A duration of 5-6 hours, due to terrain that is very dangerous in one section

🚩 It's important to bring a hat, light clothing, hiking boots, and walking sticks.

🚩 Bring plenty of water and snacks; there are no shops in this area. Don't take any detours if you don't see a path to avoid getting lost or falling off the cliff

Okay, we've reached the most challenging part of the trail, and we're literally at the highest point, over 380 meters. We'll take a path with a sign; if you follow it south, you'll reach "Cabo Espichel." This is a good way to avoid getting lost and enjoy the experience. Remember the landscapes we left behind? Now, it's all scrubland and bushes that can hurt your legs, so it's important to wear jeans instead of shorts.🚩🚙

Listo, llegamos a la parte más crítica del sendero y estamos literalmente en el punto más alto, a más de 380 metros. Tomaremos un camino que tiene un letrero y que, si lo sigues siempre hacia el sur, te llevará a "Cabo Espichel"; es una ventaja para no perderte y disfrutar la experiencia. ¿Recuerdan los paisajes que dejamos atrás? Ahora todo es matorral y arbustos que lastiman las piernas, por eso es importante venir en jean y no en pantalón corto.📸🏞️

We arrived at the abandoned fort after a long walk, and it started to get very windy here; suddenly, I'm cold. It's crazy, Portugal! One minute it's super hot, and the next it's freezing cold. Anyway, my advice is to bring something warm in case it gets cold or windy at night! What I'll do now is look for the ruins where the chapel used to be.🚩🗺️

Llegamos al fuerte abandonado luego de una larga caminata y comenzó a hacer mucha brisa aquí y, de pronto, tengo frío. Es una locura Portugal: de un momento súper caluroso a una tarde fría. Bueno, ¡que mi consejo les sirva para traer algo para abrigarse en caso de que haga frío en la noche o viento! Lo que haré ahora es buscar la ruina donde estaba la capilla.👩🏻‍🦯📍

Somewhere around here, there are ruins where there used to be a stone statue representing a Catholic figure, whose prayers accompanied sailors traveling beyond the Atlantic coasts. Seeing these ruins, believe me, is a feeling of peace and transports me to the times of sailors when they thought that sea monsters existed.🚩🏞️📸

En algún lugar por acá hay una ruina donde antes había una estatua de piedra que representaba una figura católica, cuyas oraciones acompañaban a los marineros que viajaban más allá de las costas atlánticas. Ver estas ruinas, créanme, da una sensación de paz y me transporta a épocas de marineros, cuando pensaban que existían monstruos marinos.🏰⛵

You must be very careful when hiking in the middle of summer, especially if you're alone. It's essential to stay well-hydrated and wear appropriate clothing. But, as you rightly say, visiting these beautiful places makes the effort and risk worthwhile.

You need to be in very good physical condition to hike 12 kilometers in the summer sun.

Your country is truly incredible; it's curious that you started your trek in the heat and ended up feeling cold.

Hola @biologistbrito, el recorrido es largo, 12 km para ver la playa requiere buenas condiciones físicas y resistencia, el paisaje es bonito combina un entorno rural con casas al fondo, alguien entre los matorrales te observa y te vigila je, je, la playa se ve espectacular, me encanta el color azul del agua y la cordillera.

Esta foto me recuerda a una zona de la Gran Sabana (Venezuela)

Buenas tardes @biologistbrito. Que paseo con tantas fotografías, además del azul del agua, se aprecia muy bien tanto el bosque mediterráneo como el matorral del Atlántico, sólo falta el olor. Creo que me pasaré por allí en otoño o primavera.
