Tech Kit: GaN Charger

Tech Kit: GaN Charger.jpg

I've been lusting after a GaN (Gallium Nitride) charger for quite some time now... ever since it was released onto the market a couple of years ago as a lighter, compact, and more efficient alternative to the regular silicon based chargers and power supplies. But, I've held off... after all, I have decent silicon based chargers and power supplies, and so I couldn't really justify dropping a couple of hundred dollars on the latest and greatest in charging tech.... even if it was really really really cool!

Fast forward a couple of years, and these GaN chargers are significantly cheaper than the first generation... and on a recent Amazon Prime Day sale... I decided that I would do it, and splash out on a nice charging point for myself. After all, I could justify that I needed it for travelling?

Well.. first up, a small and light charging point that is capable of 65W of output! Pity my laptop doesn't support USB-PD for charging... the next one will, but currently I still need to lug around the charging brick. But it is a gaming laptop, so I guess that I need the brick anyway... until the PD standard and the GaN tech is capable of 130W output! That said, I'm toying around with the idea of a secondary smaller laptop/ebook for light work stuff, with a more solid gaming laptop for the fun stuff!

So, this is the complete package... and it is pretty awesome how light and small it is! It is about wallet sized (not counting the power cable...), and weighs much less than an apple!

And four power outputs, with quite a bit of grunt behind it! So, this is going to find a place in my messenger bag that is my daily carry for my tech gear and music scores. If I ever find myself in a bit of a cafe or library work situation, this is more than enough to keep everything powered up and running smoothly. Especially if I move to a powerful e-book "laptop" that I'm currently eyeing off!

I had thought to move it to my travel case... but that would mean that I wouldn't be using it much during my regular non-travelling days. And the travel suitcase has more than enough room to accommodate the larger silicon-based power supply.

So, very happy that I'm able to round out my charging kit with this little beauty! I've been spending the day unpacking some other tech kit that I've accumulated over the last couple of months but haven't yet had the time to unpack and integrate into my daily life! The next few posts will be full of these little tech and nerd toys!

Cool! I bought an adapter last year with 2 usbc and a usb 3 port. Replaces all my chargers, gets less hot and charges with high watts. Love it 👌

Greetings, congratulations on this new acquisition, I hope you enjoy it and get the most out of it. I liked the design and model of it, since it is very practical and perfect to take anywhere and that way you always have a source of energy nearby that lasts, plus an incredible capacity and for that part there will be no problems. It will certainly get you out of trouble. Excellent friend.
