Taking the Telescope for a Spin!
My youngest girl asked for a telescope for last Christmas, and she used her present money from her grandmother to pick on up for herself. After the initial setup, we were looking at various trees and birds around our house... and then we did a bit of a look around at stars. However, this isn't a crazily powerful telescope, and so stars are touch out of its power range... and it is more for looking at the moon.
However, like many of these sorts of presents, it isn't enough to just get the present... you have to help the kids get out and actually use them. Otherwise they just sit around gathering dust at home...
... and finding time to do that can be quite difficult, unless you make time. And we have tried previously on earlier full moons... but they have been on the opposite side of the mountain from us, and we didn't have the time during school nights (and concert preparations....) to drive up the mountain to set it up.
I did know that the moon sometimes does appear on our side of the mountain as we have watched the lunar eclipse from this side from the top of a mulch pile before.
The other night, I saw that there was a full moon when I was driving home... and it is a school holiday and so I said that as soon as we finished dinner that we would drive up the mountain and get it set up so that we could finally see the moon with the telescope!
... and so we all rugged up, packed up the telescope... put on shoes and walked out...
... and there was the full moon, right up there visible from our driveway! So, we moved off to the side into the front garden so that we didn't trigger the sensor lights and marveled at the moon through the lenses!
Sadly, we couldn't really get a decent photo of the moon through the telescope... it was quite amazing how bright it was! We all tried with different phones and different settings, but you would probably need something a bit more dedicated to do it!

I want to raise money to be able to buy one, as it is extremely necessary and even fun.
Ah, these are quite fun! It is only a child's telescope, but I was still amazed by what you could see!
Congratulations!
