I am crazily late the electronic music craze... I'm not really sure when it all took off, one minute everyone was using dead tree music scores... and then all of a sudden, lots of people are using iPads or tablets with foot pedal turners. I think a good chunk of that seemed to have come about from some of the coronavirus stimulus money... musicians don't tend to have lots of disposable income, and the concept of not printing every single piece of music that you have to perform is pretty handy, but you have to have the up-front cash to purchase an iPad either first or second hand... and I see that many people did end up buying second iPads with their little bit of the corona-cash boost.
Personally, I didn't use my cash boost for that... you know, having a family to support with two freelance musicians, we needed to use the money on things like food... Thank goodness that that period has passed, it wasn't a great one for performers, regardless of your views on everything from that time. Honestly, if I hear the words "we are in it TOGETHER!!!" one more time, I will puke and slap someone.
Anyway, back on topic, my wife and I recently got ourselves some nice large format e-readers instead of the tablets. We do have tablets in the house, but they are meant for the kids... and I do prefer tablets for reading from, even with the slight lag that you get in comparison to the LED screens. And that meant that we had to start experimenting with foot pedals.
After some research we settled on this model... it seems okay, and some of my students have it. Simple and pretty barebones, it turns pages... and that is all that I want it to do!
Now, the only thing is that it isn't a rechargeable battery... no matter, it is still easy enough to get AAA batteries around the place, and they should last a pretty decent amount of time.
My wife is still trying to figure out how to use it with her piano pedals as well... and meanwhile, I struggle to reliably turn the page whilst playing! Sigh... we are really quite old-fashioned when it comes to music, which is completely weird for me, as I'm a tech-nerd in every other aspect of my life!
I'll get used to it with practice I guess... but for the foreseeable future, I'm still sticking with dead tree music. The e-reader will be for an easily accessible and portable library of music, but not for performing!
