A week or so ago, I went with my two girls to the mall to try and find things that they wanted to spend their Christmas money on. My mother, she now gives them a little bit of money to find things that they might want for themselves... well, we had actually gone to the mall to find things for the cousins on my side, who were going to visit... but a few days ago, they postponed, but that is a story for a different time.

Anyway, we came to the mall and the toy-store to look for other people... and meanwhile, my youngest one is obviously not helping out with that task... and was looking for things for herself. Sigh... anyway, she asked if she could get a telescope... apparently she has always wanted one... but she has always wanted whatever is right in front of her at that particular moment. And it was within the budget for her Christmas gift... so, I said I would check with her mum, and then order it online. Brick and mortar toy stores are quite expensive... and I saw that you could get a better one online, and for the same price.

So, two boxes inside... with all the component items. And I was going to make her help me put it together... she is a bit sneaky, and she will often get her older sister to put stuff together for her.

Although it looks metal, keep in mind that this is a relatively inexpensive kids telescope... its all plastic!

... and the housing with the main lens was in the other box. Along with a handful of other things that were unexpected, a carry bag, and a various parts for a phone attachment.

So, spread out... this was all the kit that we had to put together. Thankfully, the instructions were pretty straight-forward and it wasn't that complicated to put together.

... and there we go... a finished little telescope for watching birds and the moon. Not really strong enough for stars or really dim and faraway objects. But we had lots of fun watching birds and looking at trees from a distance while we got used to the locks, motion, and focus!

Just got to wait for a decent full moon!
