My visit to Pichincha Square, in the city center, with its beautiful natural setting (Eng - Esp)
Greetings, fellow nature lovers; I hope you are all doing well and having a wonderful weekend. It is a pleasure to share a new tour of Plaza Pichincha. Located in the center of Cumaná—the capital of Sucre State—it is known as the "twin plaza" (plaza morocha) because it sits directly across from Plaza Bolívar. Plaza Pichincha pays tribute to the national hero Antonio José de Sucre; the name "Pichincha" commemorates a battle fought on May 24, 1822, during which the hero from Cumaná distinguished himself through his military skills and strategies, ultimately defeating the enemy.
The plaza boasts a very pleasant natural setting, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the cool breeze. Several large trees dot the grounds—including neem, palms, fisco, and ceiba trees—alongside various ornamental plants.
A bust of Antonio José de Sucre stands in the center of the plaza; the bust is dark gray, while the pedestal is beige. To one side stands a wall matching the pedestal's color, bearing the inscription "Batalla Pichincha" (Battle of Pichincha) and the date it took place; this wall is framed by columns and symbolic chains. The plaza features concrete benches and walkways. I really like it because of its natural atmosphere and its location at a convergence point for important institutions, such as the public library, a university center, the bishop's residence, and the Carmelite convent. Two streets—Bolívar and Sucre—run vertically along either side of the plaza.
Saludos amigos amantes de la naturaleza, deseo se encuentren bien y tengan un feliz fin de semana, es un placer compartir un nuevo recorrido por la plaza Pichincha esta se encuentra ubicada en el centro de la ciudad Cumaná, capital del estado Sucre y se conoce como la plaza morocha, ya que se ubica al frente de la plaza Bolívar, la plaza Pichincha, rinde homenaje al prócer Antonio José de Sucre y el nombre Pichincha se debe a una batalla realizada el 24 de mayo de 1822, donde el prócer cumanés destacó por sus habilidades y estrategias militares derrotando al enemigo.
La plaza tiene un entorno natural muy agradable ideal para relajarse y disfrutar la fresca brisa, varios árboles grandes se encuentran en el terreno, entre ellos; Neem, Palmeras, Fiscos y Ceibas, además algunas plantas ornamentales.
En el centro de la plaza se ubica el busto de Antonio José de Sucre, es de color gris oscuro y el pedestal de color beige, a uno de los lados se encuentra un muro del mismo color del pedestal, donde se lee el nombre Batalla Pichincha y la fecha en la cual se realizó, este muro está resguardado por columnas y cadenas simbólicas, en la plaza hay bancos y caminerías de concreto, me gustó porque tiene un entorno natural y converge con importantes instituciones como la Biblioteca pública, un centro de estudios universitarios, el episcopado y las Carmelitas, a cada lado es atravesada verticalmente por dos calles la Bolívar y Sucre.
A wide concrete walkway runs in front of the pedestal holding the bust of Antonio José de Sucre; branching off from it are several paths lined with benches. This serves as the central walkway, providing access to other parts of the square. The benches are situated along the edges of the paths, typically next to the plantings; they are made of white granite and share the same design as those found in Plaza Bolívar.
Along Sucre Street, one can see colonial-style buildings featuring wooden doors, large windows, and tiled roofs. Nearby, benches line the path, accompanied by the surrounding greenery. While I am unsure if the benches were placed near the plants specifically to take advantage of the shade and the refreshing morning and afternoon breezes, the area is certainly a pleasant spot to rest and chat with friends. Next, we see Bolívar Street, with its triangular side walls and Café Bracamonte—a popular local spot for socializing outdoors and enjoying the natural surroundings. Leafy trees at the front of the café provide shade and enhance the beauty of the setting.
Al frente del pedestal donde se encuentra el busto de Antonio José de Sucre, pasa una amplia caminería de concreto y desde ella se desprenden varios pasillos en los cuales se colocaron los bancos, podría decirse que este es el pasillo central y desde allí hay acceso hacia otros puntos de la plaza, los bancos se ubican en los bordes de las pasarelas y regularmente están al lado de las plantas, estos son de granito y de color blanco, con el mismo diseño de los ubicados en la plaza Bolívar.
Por la calle Sucre, vemos algunas construcciones de origen colonial, con puertas de madera, grandes ventanales y los techos cubiertos con teja, a continuación se aprecian los bancos ubicados en el borde y las respectivas plantas muy cerca de ellos, desconozco si la ubicación de los bancos en esta zona cercana a las plantas, corresponde a un trazado para aprovechar la sombra que las plantas ofrecen y la refrescante brisa que se puede disfrutar en horas de la mañana y de la tarde, lo cierto es que es un lugar agradable para descansar y conversar con amigos; seguidamente vemos la calle Bolívar, sus muros triangulares a los lados y el café Bracamonte, que es un conocido lugar en la ciudad para compartir con amigos al aire libre disfrutando el entorno natural, en la parte frontal del café también hay árboles frondosos que refrescan y adornan el lugar.
As you walk through the area where the benches are located—positioned along the small walkways and set diagonally at their edges—you can also admire the many trees lining both sides of the main path. The view is beautiful; in fact, the abundance of trees, which create a pleasant space to relax and enjoy the shade, was what I liked most about this plaza.
This area is often used for craft exhibitions and displays, as well as performances by various local cultural groups; the grounds feature several trees and small ornamental plants. After a short walk around the plaza and its surroundings with my son, I sat on a bench to rest and take in the atmosphere. It is a very busy plaza—likely due to its location between Bolívar and Sucre streets, which lead to key parts of the city—and although we would have liked to stay longer, we had errands to run.
En el recorrido por el área de los bancos, se observa que están en los pasillos pequeños y en los bordes de los mismos en diagonal, también se aprecia la cantidad de árboles ubicados a ambos lados del pasillo principal, la vista es hermosa y de hecho fue lo que más me gustó de esta plaza, los abundantes árboles que crean un agradable espacio para relajarse y disfrutar la sombra de los árboles.
Esta planta suele ser utilizada para realizar exhibiciones y exposiciones artesanales, también presentaciones de diferentes grupos culturales de la ciudad, en el terreno hay varios árboles y plantas ornamentales pequeñas, luego de una pequeña caminata por la plaza y sus alrededores, en compañía de mi hijo me senté en un banco para descansar y observar el entorno, es una plaza muy transitada creo que por su ubicación entre la calle Bolívar y Sucre, que conducen a importantes puntos de la ciudad, queríamos quedarnos más tiempo, pero habían diligencias por hacer.
