Morning walk along the beach on the Coccoloba uvifera tree trail (Eng - Esp)
Hello fellow nature lovers, it's a pleasure to greet you and wish you a happy and blessed day with your loved ones. This time, I'm sharing a relaxing walk along the beach following the Uveros trail. As I've mentioned in previous posts, this is one of my favorite places. I love watching the waves, the palm trees swaying in the wind, enjoying the soft sand, and most importantly, watching the sunset.
This time my visit was in the morning, but it was still very pleasant. The sea was calm, the waves and wind moved gently, producing a pleasant sound and offering beautiful views of the landscape. Sea grapes, as they are colloquially known, are one of the most common plants on several beaches in Cumaná and the state of Sucre. They are characterized by their round leaves, smooth trunks, and in many cases, their branches take on a circular, S, or L shape. I have seen these types of branch shapes on several beaches in the city, and they are used for sitting. Sea grapes also produce a sweet and sour fruit from which a delicious wine is made; its texture and flavor are pleasant. During the walk, I noticed a detail about these plants that caught my attention: their branches and trunks were partially straight, some with slight curves, very different from those I have observed on other beaches in the city. At this point, I don't know if it is because they are young or if there is some element that contributes to their branches taking on different shapes or inclinations over the years.
Hola amigos amantes de la naturaleza, es un placer saludarles deseando que tengan un feliz y bendecido día en unión de sus seres queridos, en esta ocasión les comparto un relajante recorrido por la orilla de la playa siguiendo el sendero de los Uveros la playa, como he mencionado en publicaciones anteriores es uno de mis lugares favoritos, me gusta observar las olas, las palmeras movidas por el viento, disfrutar la suave arena y lo más importante ver el atardecer.
En esta oportunidad mi visita fue horas de la mañana pero de igual forma fue muy agradable, el mar estaba tranquilo las olas y el viento se movían suavemente produciendo un agradable sonido y ofreciendo hermosas vistas del paisaje, los uveros de playa como se les conoce coloquialmente constituyen una de las plantas más comunes en varias playas de Cumaná y el estado Sucre, se caracterizan por sus hojas redondas troncos lisos y en muchos casos sus ramas toman forma circular de S o L, en varias playas de la ciudad he visto este tipo de formas en las ramas y son usadas para sentarse, también los Uveros producen un fruto agridulce con el cual se prepara un delicioso vino, su textura y sabor son agradables, durante la caminata pude observar un detalle en estas plantas que llamó mi atención, sus ramas y troncos estaban parcialmente rectos algunos con ellos ligeras curvaturas, muy diferentes a los he he observado en otras playas de la ciudad, en este punto desconozco si es porque están jóvenes o tal vez hay algún elemento que contribuye a que con el paso de los años sus ramas se torneen adoptando diferentes formas o inclinaciones.
The sea grape trees are strategically located on the beach, between the wall that separates the beach from the avenue and a rocky walkway that follows the entire length of the beach. I think they may have been planted there following a pattern to beautify the beach or so that the plants could obtain nutrients from the sea. As they fall, the leaves turn different colors, such as yellow, light brown, and finally a reddish color similar to brick. The trees are arranged along the edge of the walkway, with a specific spacing between each one.
Continuing along the path, I sat for several minutes on one of the walls to observe the movement of the waves, listen to their sound, watch some birds fishing, and enjoy the cool breeze. At that time of day, the sun's rays had little impact, which allowed me to walk peacefully for approximately 2 km along this beautiful coastal strip. From there, you can see a small pier from which boats depart for different parts of the city. Then, you have a view of the beach with its gentle waves and appreciate the rock walkway located on the edge.
Los Uveros están estratégicamente ubicados en la orilla de la playa, entre el muro que delimita la playa con la avenida y una caminería de rocas que sigue todo el sendero de la playa, pienso que tal vez fueron sembrados allí siguiendo un patrón para embellecer la playa o para que esta planta obtenga sus nutrientes del mar; al caer, las hojas del árbol toman diferentes colores como, amarillo, marrón claro y finalmente un color rojizo similar al ladrillo, los árboles están dispuestos en el borde de la caminería y hay un determinado espacio entre cada uno de ellos.
Siguiendo el recorrido me senté varios minutos en uno de los muros a observar el movimiento de las olas, escuchar su sonido, ver algunas aves que estaban pescando y disfrutar la fresca brisa, a hora del día los rayos solares tenían poca incidencia, lo cual me permitió caminar tranquilamente una distancia aproximada de 2 km en esta linda franja costera, desde la cual se observa un pequeño muelle, desde el cual zarpan botes para diferentes puntos de la ciudad, luego tenemos una vista de la playa su suave oleaje y se aprecia la caminería de rocas ubicada en el borde.
Following the path, you can appreciate the details of the sea grape leaf: its flattened, round shape, as well as its veins, which have different colors. The central veins are reddish and thicker, while the inner ones are white or green and thinner. The fruits are round and green and grow in clusters; although the trees are small, they bear several clusters.
As I mentioned at the beginning, the plant maintains a relatively straight trunk, as do the branches. According to one of the men who was fishing, sea grape trees begin to lean or take on certain shapes over the years because the branches become heavier for the trunk and must bend to support themselves in the ground. Furthermore, as the tree gets older, bumps (cankered areas) will appear on the branches.
Next, we have a view of a small sea grape tree, notable for its large leaves, mostly green with very few brown ones, a result of the drought the country is experiencing. The beach sand looks relaxing, soft, and perfect for massaging your feet during the walk.
At the end of the walk, I headed towards a tree with a thick trunk and leafy branches. It's located next to the rocky path and has a patch of dry sand. Along this stretch, there are several sea grape trees with fruit and a tree similar to a neem tree. After several minutes under the tree, I took the path back to explore other areas of the beach.
Siguiendo el sendero se aprecian los detalles de la hoja de uvero, su forma aplanada y redonda, así como las nervaduras de la misma, que tienen diferente coloración, las del centro son de color rojizo y más gruesas, las del interior son de color blanco o verde y más delgadas que las anteriores, los frutos son redondos de color verde y crecen en racimos, aunque los árboles son pequeños tienen varios racimos.
Como lo mencioné al principio, la planta conserva su tronco relativamente recto, al igual que las ramas, según la explicación de uno de los señores que se encontraba pescando, los uveros se van inclinando o tomando ciertas formas con el paso de los años, debido a que las ramas se van haciendo más pesadas para el tronco y deben doblarse para tener un soporte en la tierra, además mientras más viejo sea el árbol le irán creciendo bultos (accesos) en las ramas.
Seguidamente tenemos la vista de un Uvero pequeño que resalta por sus grandes hojas, en su mayoría de color verde y muy pocas de color marrón, producto de la estación de sequía que se está viviendo en el país, la arena de la playa se ve relajante, suave y perfecta para masajear los pies durante la caminata.
Finalizando el recorrido, me dirigí hasta un árbol de tronco grueso y ramas frondosas, este se ubica al lado de la caminería de rocas y tiene un espacio con arena seca, en este trayecto hay varios Uveros con fruto y un árbol parecido al Neem, luego de varios minutos debajo del árbol tomé el camino de vuelta para visitar otras zonas de la playa.
