The strange reality of AI at my workplace continues to raise questions

Few days ago I wrote that in my company while the use of AI started to be implemented, in my team the boss said that it was forbidden its use. Now things evolved and almost everybody in the company got AI subscriptions with either 1000 or 10000 tokens to use freely. I was also one of many that got such a subscription with 10000 tokens, but my boss says that I am still not allowed to use it (alongside other team members) as currently that's approved only for a single project in the company (fake news). People around me are enthusiastic about using AI even in management positions, while I am starring at the screen thinking in how so many good use cases I can put it at work... but I am still "not allowed". That's quite strange and I cannot but wonder what's in the head of my boss when everybody is running, our team is walking backwards.

The fear that AI will replace humans is real, but I think that you either join the party or you are left behind. Technology has always rewarded those who adapt first. AI should be seen as a tool that amplifies our skills and not as an excuse to stop learning. The future will likely belong to those who know how to work alongside AI, not compete against it. This is why I want to join the party and make the most of it. I simply don't want to push my mind to the limits with complex low level coding and just give this task to an AI agent and just guide him to the right solution and review it in the end. And this shouldn't be hidden in any way and be able to allow it to access the code I am working on, rather than keeping it agnostic.

Complexity can be handled much better by AI as compared to human being, or at least from my part. It can analyze bigger amounts of information and connect pieces that would take us hours to process. Instead of spending time on repetitive, intricate tasks or analyzing code that we haven't written, we can focus on validating the results and making better decisions. I see AI as a multiplier that increases our capabilities rather than replacing our rational thinking. Working alongside it allows us to tackle problems that would otherwise feel overwhelming. One of my colleagues asked me to help him modify some code and he couldn't see if that's even possible. He was partially true as the change was required in a 3rd party lib. But while we couldn't do that, AI got me an answer that I can override some properties for it to bypass some validations. And that solved it, but I had to anonymize things instead of allowing access to source code.

Even if I am not officially allowed to use it yet for other things by sharing the source code, I've started using it in a more abstract way and just for building some testing tool that are not specific to company apps. But I hope that as days passed and if there will be metrics counting the use of tokens, that we will also start using it more actively in our team. I say that this will happen, but still don't understand my boss thinking to push against it. In the same time my boss is very lazy and he doesn't like complex things, thus if I was to put myself into his own shoes and be lazy I would do the same. Don't change anything, don't push for evolution, don't think, don't worry, don't do anything that challenges your brain... But than I am not him, I want to learn and evolve with the AI industry as if I will not work here anymore, I still want to be well positioned on the job market. I guess I will need to work more from the sidelines or using some of my own procedures to keep up with it and grow.

I think if they don't allow you, then there's nothing you can do other than to just find ways around it. If they're giving credits for everyone to use, then it's surprising to know that you're exempted, that's honestly sad. AI is evolving and I think all we need to do is adapt. By the way, was it a Claude subscription?

It is Kiro which uses Claude subscriptions amongst others. I usually use it on Auto and let it pick the right model based on the given task. And yeah, I hope that even our boss will be put in the position not to be able to say "No". Until that happens we'll work around it, but that's just plain stupid.

It's really not good coming from the bosses lol, do they think using AI will stop your efficiency or something? They shouldn't be doing that.

I project, I've been trying to just get little help from paid AI, but I can't even afford that.

He is outdated by the new technology and also fears what he doesn't understand. I don't want to use worse labels for it, but never seen a guy like him in my entire profession. He knows just to lie everybody (even he was caught several times) and tries to work as little as possible.

My advice is, start looking for a new job. You don't owe the company nothing to waste time in develop your carreer. I would even try to get myself into some certification or courses on AI and Data Science and even VibeCoding best practices, and start looking for companies that will pay top dollars for such skills.
