A Library in My Pocket: How an E-Book Reader Changed My SciFi World

‎Greetings to everyone!

I’m @bdariful, new to Hive. I love diving into the worlds of technology, science fiction, and futuristic thinking.
This is my very first post in the SciFi Multiverse community, and I’m excited to begin this journey with all of you.

In this post, I’ve shared how a simple eBook reader has completely transformed my sci-fi reading experience.

‎The first time I heard the word “e-book,” I wondered—can a book really be read on a screen?

No smell, no pages—can a shining screen really carry ships of imagination?

But over time, alongside paper books, PDF reader apps, web novels, and e-book formats carved their own space.

And I discovered—here it is, a whole new galaxy unfolding in the palm of my hand.

Now, I can read online while sitting on a bus, leaning on the corner of the roof, or lying awake at night in bed.

With translation features, I now read Japanese, Russian, or Korean sci-fi stories—ones I had no connection with before.

Taking notes, highlighting, bookmarking—all just a tap away!
No more needing to mark paper pages with a pen.

Even when there’s no electricity, I can still read...
We often face power outages here. Darkness surrounds, fans stop spinning, and silence grows thick.

In those moments, I open an e-book stored on my phone.
Outside, crickets chirp, and I dive into an adventure on another planet.

Honestly, at those times, it feels like—
There’s no power, no internet, yet I’m not alone.Inside this screen in my hand lives a future, That doesn’t just tell stories but keeps my imagination alive.

I remember my first sci-fi e-book was The Time Machine.

I used to watch the clock hands and count time, then realized—time isn’t just something to measure,

Time is a destination.

And what I opened thinking was just a simple PDF file, was actually a time shuttle.

I often imagine a future e-book reader—

That turns pages with eye gestures,

Where the planets or characters in the story float before your eyes in 3D,

Where an AI tutor explains complex theories,

And offline stores the entire history of sci-fi—an archive.

To me, the e-book reader is not just an app.

It’s a starship—carrying me beyond time, beyond reality.
Even today, I love reading paper books.
But this reader in my pocket quietly whispers,

“Whenever you want, we’ll start the journey again.”

Thank you so much for reading.
‎Hope you liked it.

Hi @bdariful , welcome to Hive and SciFi Multiverse. I loved reading your post -you really nailed how e-books can be a little adventure right in your pocket. That "starship" line? so cool. It's awesome how tech makes reading easier and more exciting, especially being able to dive into stories anytime, even during power outages.

Glad to hear you used e-books to keep yourself busy whenever the need arises, technology has really made a lot of things we never imagined possible, possible.
