That afternoon, the weather was clear after a night of rain. I decided to take a walk around my backyard, hoping to find something interesting to photograph. While observing the wildflowers near the mango tree, I saw a quick movement that caught my attention. A large, shiny black bee was busy circling the flowers. It was a Xylocopa tenuiscapa, also known as a carpenter bee.
I approached carefully so as not to disturb it. The bee seemed to be busy collecting nectar from the flowers with very agile movements. I was fascinated by the black color of its shiny body, combined with wings that looked like they glowed purple-brown when exposed to sunlight. The moment was truly captivating, and I immediately attached my macro lens to capture the details.
For a few minutes, I observed its behavior. Occasionally, the bee would pause for a moment at the edge of the flower, as if resting. I also noticed small holes in old logs nearby, which were most likely its nests. Knowing that this bee is known for its ability to dig into wood to make its nest made this observation even more interesting.
