This mushroom turned out to be Trametes sanguinea, a type of wood fungus often found in tropical forests. Its striking color—red-orange with cream edges—immediately caught my attention. The texture of its surface looked rough, like velvet, and the underside was filled with tiny pores where spores came out. The beautiful combination of color and shape made me think of capturing it with a macro lens.
I started preparing my equipment. Carefully, I mounted the lens and composed, making sure every detail of the mushroom was perfectly captured. The afternoon sunlight that filtered through the gaps in the leaves provided soft natural lighting, but I still used additional lighting to emphasize the texture of the mushroom. While taking the photo, I felt how amazing the micro world is that is often overlooked by the naked eye.
After finishing taking the photo, I sat for a moment to observe the surrounding habitat. The rotten palm frond turned out to be home to many other small organisms, such as ants and beetles. The presence of Trametes sanguinea here confirms its role as a decomposer, helping to return nutrients to the soil.
