Solving Problems With Few Operations; Quantum Computing

(Edited)

There is no question that the future of our world will be defined by quantum computing. In my opinion it is only a matter of time before the technology becomes streamlined and perfected.

Perfecting this technology will be the most significant technological break through within the next 10 years.

Large companies such as Google, Apple, and IBM are already experimenting with quantum computers and the only problem is that the computers are not yet 100% accurate.

I will try to explain quantum computing as simply as I can, and in this way hopefully you can better understand the significance of this technology for the future of mankind.

Classical computing, as it is now being called, operates uses bits to store information . The operation consists of the computer assigning a variable such as a letter or a number with a 1 or a 0.

You know, that old school binary code that is allowing you to read this stemgeeks post right now.

Well, quantum computers utilize quantum mechanics and operate with qubits (quantum bits). These operations store information as both a 1 and a 0, not either or. The operation of qubits is made possible by the entanglement principal of quantum mechanics.

The entanglement principal allows two identical molecules to exist separately in two locations at once (which there is proof that this is now possible).

This means that if we have one molecule on one side of a room and another on the other side, we can manipulate a molecule (store information) and the identical molecule on the other side of the room will mirror exactly what the manipulated molecule looks like.

In a way, it creates two different identical sets of data existing simultaneously in the same place that can be sent somewhere else, think of two parallel universes that can communicate with each other.

This sounds like science fiction, but it’s not.

To give a vague example, a classical computing system may take millions of operations to figure out one simple problem. Whereas a quantum computer could solve the same problem in about 16 operations, and we are talking about nanoseconds.

The only problem we have currently is that even though the quantum computers are able solve problems given to them, they are not always giving the best possible solution.

Once we perfect the technology to run quantum computers so that they consistently give the best possible solution for every problem, there will be another technological revolution. I cannot overstate the changes that will come with this progression.

The implications of streamlining quantum computing will have enormous impacts on Artificial Intelligence, medical breakthroughs, data storage, Blockchain functionality, you name it.

Imagine the information we could gather by sending a quantum computing system with self-aware AI technology out into deep space.

Not only that, imagine a system like that here on earth. A self thinking computer solving our problems, creating new technology, or maybe even predicting the future?

If we can perfect this computing system within the next decade, our understanding and perception of the world around us will be completely changed.

Want to give quantum computing a try? You can try it out here.

I would like to hear what you guys think? What are the implications of perfecting quantum computing technology? Let me know.

Lol, looks like we were writing up our entries at the same time! I was also going to do Quantum Computing, but got distracted by something else!

Quantum Computing has the potential to solve so many intractable problems and is going to be a really critical tool for advancing other fields of science (and more mundane fields... Logistics). This is also an exciting choice!

Howdy sir badger! What an amazing world it will be when they perfect this thing. If we could look into the future in ten years we wouldn't believe it! Great post!
