Working in a company for several years is good but there is a small chance that we might get stuck inside a comfort zone. There is no harm in working in the same company for several years as long as our needs are satisfied. But we must look for the right time to switch to our next job. My employer is keeping me happy and I have never thought about changing jobs but in recent months, I have been thinking about this and the factors that should be considered while switching jobs.

When the market is very good outside

It is essential to have a good market outside. If the market is not good outside, we cannot move to a different company with a better job or pay. We might end up accepting any offer that comes our way and we may not have enough say on the jobs we can choose. If the market is very good outside we might be very lucky to get a great job with nice pay and work-life balance which is also very important.

When your skills are not being utilized fully in your current job

It is the right moment to quit if we are not using our skills properly in our current job. We might be doing an interesting job but if the work is repetitive and also if we think that this work can be done by anyone, those are alarm signals to upskill and look for a better job. Sometimes if we are not being utilized fully, we can also approach our upper management to ask them to provide some additional tasks for us and if it does to happen even after telling them, then it is better to move to a place where we are utilized fully.

When you are working with an outdated technology

These days many clients prefer to work with modern technology. Many companies invest their money to upgrade their system from older technology to modern technology. The first revolution that happens is moving the infrastructure to cloud-based. There are many advantages to doing this activity. The main advantage is that the new systems are robust thus reducing the hardware and software requirements and it is saving a lot of money for the company. With modern technology also we have to be very careful not to do too much because sometimes it can complicate things. If we are working in an environment that is not ready to upgrade, then it is best to look for a different environment that uses the latest technology stack.

When the money you earn is not sufficient to pay your bills

Money is the most important thing of all and we have to also make sure we are getting the right compensation for the work that we are doing. If the situation is like we are not getting paid enough, it is the best time to consider searching for a new job. The money that we earn should travel along with the worldwide inflation. At least it should increase to more than the inflation value in the country. If this is not happening, we might find it hard to pay our bills and that's when we have to consider money as a factor and look for better opportunities that can pay us well.
