Discovering the uniqueness of DNA
In 1984, British geneticist Alec Jeffreys made one of the biggest discoveries of the 20th century. He discovered that the structure of each person's DNA is as unique as fingerprints.
It happened by accident. Looking through the DNA X-rays, Jeffries noticed that the DNA strands were different. He called them "genetic fingerprints".
The discovery began to be used in criminology for conducting forensic medical examinations. By a hair, a drop of saliva, a piece of skin, it became possible to determine a person's identity, so genetic fingerprinting arose.
In addition, DNA analysis allows you to establish family ties or prove their absence.
