Have You Heard of InstaMaids?

10-minute grocery delivery was wild, but it seems now you can get domestic help at your doorstep in just 15 minutes. Urban Company just launched InstaMaid’s promising instant domestic help at your home within 15 minutes. Currently, this feature is being piloted in Mumbai but I am pretty sure this feature will come to all the Metro Cities as soon as possible. The service covers chores like cleaning, mopping, and cooking prep, starting at an introductory promotional offer of 49 rupees per hour, which, if you ask me, is very, very cheap considering we don't even get proper maids in some localities even if we pay a premium price.

But this service has sparked a debate online where critics argue that when companies offer groceries in 10 minutes, they optimize logistics. But applying that same efficiency to domestic workers feels different because this isn't products being rushed down the throat; it's actual people.

However, supporters highlight potential positives, stating that InstaMaid's will offer these domestic workers 150 to 180 rupees per hour, with guaranteed monthly earnings of 20000 to 25,000 rupees, plus health insurance, which will potentially improve an industry often criticized for poor pay and informality.

Yet, concerns linger.

Can domestic help truly be commodified without ethical trade-offs? What do you folks think?

Will Indian customers use this new feature of INSTAMAIDS?
