My new film making lighting kit!

I'm very excited about this post. Not because its anything special or any different from any other post but because of the subject of the post. As those of you who follow me know I'm a filmmaker and making videos is my job and what my entire business is centered around. One of the most important but usually neglected aspects of film making is lighting. It's a very important aspect of making videos and no matter how cool or new your camera is if the lighting is bad your image will be bad. I've been looking for a really great lighting setup for months and this past week I finally found one.

The lights that I found on craigslist are a set of Godox lights. Now, these are not the latest and greatest lights nor are they the most expensive. What they are is small (compared to small led lights) and they are very affordable and powerful. Plus I was able to buy 3 lights with all the accessories and this Arri Case which is expensive on its own.

This Lighting kit came with 2x Godos 60w and 1x 100w so 3 lights in total. These lights are all VERY BRIGHT LED lights which means that while they do get warm they don't get super hot light the old school lightbulb lights which got VERY HOT. They are also CRI 95+ now what does that mean if anyone is wondering? What does CRI (Color Rendering Index) mean and why is CRI important in LED lighting? Can’t tell the difference between the black and navy colored socks in your videos? That's because lighting quality is a real issue. That's why movies arent made with the lightbulbs you find in your average house or department store. To put it simply the higher the CRI the higher quality and more accurate the color of the light being emitted and the longer the light is on the color of the light won't shift or change at all. It will always stay the exact same color and intensity.

Overall this is a great kit that I found and I'm very excited to start using it on future projects and have these for a long time! I'll be sure in the future and on my Appics and Instagram to post BTS (Behind the Scenes) photos of future projects where I'm using these light and future projects in general.

If anyone has any questions about lighting for photos and/or videos or you want to learn more about filmmaking then comment below and lets chat!

Great deal man! I have one SL60W and I would love to have a few more. I have no light meter but I can compare it to many different bulbs I had in the past: The light is waaaay better, consistent and you can literally see the higher CRI value.

Congrats and of course I would be interested in BTS stuff preferable on dtube :)

Peace!

Yea I happened to find an amazing deal for these that I could not say no to. Most of the BTS will be posts and maybe some short clips that I can put on dtube or 3speak. Most of my projects are for clients and end up on youtube for them.
