One of the most dangerous threats to Humankind right now is Climate Change .
Some people may agree , some may not but Climate Change is Real .

Paris Agreement

Climate change needs coordination among all countries because even if one part of the world , say Asian countries , are doing well in limited Carbon emissions but the other part of the world isn't then it is going to affect all .

This is why parties to UNFCCC met in 2015 and came to an agreement called as Paris Agreement , it came to force in 2016 .

Goal - to limit the global warming to well below 2 degree Celsius ( preferably less than 1.5 degree Celsius ) .

Nationally Determined Contributions - This is the voluntary declaration that each member country has determined and announced to decrease national emissions .

But since this post is about Indian climate status , we will talk about this in some other post .

4th Largest in the world

With respect to Renewable energy capacity , India is the 4th largest in the world currently .

Target set by government - 175 GW in renewable energy by 2022.
Current Status - 450 GW in renewable energy by 2030 .

Currently , Indian government is claiming that it will reach its targets well before the deadline .

Is it true ?

Current Share of different Renewable Energy

Wind Power: 38,124.15 MW (42.7%)
Solar Power: 36,050.74 MW (40.4%)
Biomass Power: 10,145.92 MW (11.4%)
Small Hydro Power: 4,739.97 MW (5.3%)
Waste-to-Power: 168.64 MW (0.2%)

As of September 2020, 89.22 GW is already operational, projects of 48.21 GW are at various stages of implementation and projects of 25.64 GW capacity are under various stages of bidding.

Given these , it looks like they are on the right path and can achieve it .

Scope left in Solar energy

  1. Since half of the country lies in Sub-tropical region , India has enormous potential for generating power using Solar Energy .

  2. The Solar Rooftop Project has immense potential to increase the share of Solar energy and reach the targets earlier .

  3. Proper implementation of "UrjaData/ KUSUM " Scheme which aims at providing additional income for farmers by replacing diesel pump set with solar pump set and linking it to the grid .

Eventually all the nations must and should move towards renewable energy , it is good to see such a huge populated country achieve this at a faster pace .

Regards ,
MR.
