Did you know that? planting consists of placing the seeds in a suitable substrate so that the plants germinate and develop, there are various planting methods, each with its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of method will depend on several factors, such as the type of plant, the climate, the available space and resources. Planting is the fundamental first step in growing plants.Whether in a large vegetable garden or in a pot on the balcony, choosing the right planting method can make all the difference in the growth and development of your plants.

In the same vein, the different planting methods that can be used when establishing a crop in your garden will be described below.

First of all, we have the direct sowing method that consists of placing the seed directly in the soil or definitive substrate where the plant will germinate and complete its productive cycle, that is, from germination to the moment of harvest. Among the advantages of this type of planting we have, it saves time and labor in addition to a better adaptation of the roots to the soil, as for the disadvantages we can mention the increased risk of seed loss due to environmental factors such as birds, insects or frost, in addition to increased competition with weeds.

Among the types of direct seeding we have:

  • Sowing to the volley: this type of sowing consists of the random spreading of the seeds on the ground and then they are incorporated with some implement, generally this type of sowing is used in the cultivation of grasses.

  • Sowing in rows or line: in this type of sowing the seeds are placed in straight lines, facilitating the cultural tasks, it can be in a running way or separated at a distance depending on the crop, the separation between the various rows that are necessary on the surface is also considered.

  • Sowing in furrows: this type of sowing is similar to the linear one where seeds are placed in a straight line at a distance from each other, for this, the ground is prepared to make the furrows and between one furrow and another the seed lines are placed.

We have already mentioned several types of direct seeding, now we can describe the method of direct seeding that consists of a system that is used when in the initial stages of the plant special care is needed, until they reach an adequate size to be located in the defined site.

When we talk about indirect sowing, the seedbeds or nurseries are automatically known, where substrates are prepared in an area and different types of containers are counted such as bags, pots, among others, where the sowing will be carried out and after the germination of the seeds the plants will remain with special irrigation care, pest control among other care, until they look vigorous enough to be transplanted into the final field where the rest of the productive cycle will fulfill.

Dear readers, at the time of planting the type of plant should be considered and that they adapt to the climatic conditions of the area, of course have the necessary space for the establishment of the crop, keep the substrate moist, but avoid waterlogging. In conclusion, apart from those mentioned, the choice of planting method is fundamental for the success of your garden, by knowing the different methods and their characteristics, you will be able to make the best decision for each plant and obtain an abundant and healthy harvest.

Thank you for reading our articles, until a next installment.
