Know what kind of crops are found in our geographical area

In most of our publications that are related to agricultural content we mention the southern area of Lake Maracaibo where the Municipality of Colón is located specific place where we are based, our Municipality is a purely livestock area, but despite this, there are some production units that are growing other species of importance for food in the region. At a national level it is said that the best soils to cultivate are in our area and that is why we are a well-known territory at a national level in our country.

Before starting to mention which are the strategic crops that are planted on our agricultural surfaces, it is necessary to point out which are the adafoclimatic characteristics (soil and climate) that our ecosystem has, in this way you will be able to make some comparisons with the territory in which you are if you wish, let's start by indicating that a large percentage of the soils are open, when we talk about this type of soil it is because they have area particles, silt and clay, that is, they can be more balanced soils for crop production, these soils depending on the area can be classified into sandy loams, clay loams and silty loams, the qualification is made depending on the greater amount of particles present, for example in this area there are clay Loams soils because they have Clay particles in greater proportion.
In addition to what was mentioned in the previous paragraph, most of these soils are alluvial, that is, they were formed by sediment coming from the overflow of some rivers in the area, these have already been worked for many years and maintain good moisture retention, on the other hand, temperatures tend to be elevated above 30° Celsius and sometimes have reached up to 40° Celsius, precipitation levels are high and are distributed during several months of the year exceeding 1000 millimeters per year. We are in a humid tropical area where a great diversity of plants melt very well.

Knowing very well the characteristics that our geographical area presents, let's start by mentioning the crops that you can find on our surfaces, let's start with the most commercial ones, of course, pastures are one of the crops that will be most observed in this area, as we told you the management of cattle is what is most observed around these parts, the types of pastures that adapt are those that withstand good humidity and only in the highest areas of the farm you can find pastures such as guinea megathyrsus maximus, since, his radical system can go a little deeper.

Also another crop that develops very well in the area is the banana, although in our municipality there are not as many hectares planted compared to another nearby municipality, you can see large banana trees, this crop is very adapted to our climatic conditions and the fruit production has good yields when they are managed efficiently. Due to having soils that can easily become waterlogged, drains are made so that the plants are not affected during prolonged rainy periods.

In the same way, on our surfaces you can observe crops such as milky, parchita, yucca, corn, avocado, guava, soursop, cocoa porcelain which is considered the best in the world and adapts to these soils, among other crops, of these mentioned crops you can find several hectares planted but they are not the most exploited in the area, in the same way you can visualize in very strange cases planting of some vegetable crops that adapt to these conditions such as paprika, chili pepper,, tomato and auyama it is easier to see these crops planted in orchards in our homes than on large areas of land. Near our municipality is the Andes region with more temperate climates and this area is a large producer of vegetables.
Diversity of crops
To conclude, we have a crop that has been booming lately among producers due to the high economic incomes that it is generating despite the fact that its price has stabilized a little, this crop is oil palm, a crop that adapts very well to these soils, but also adapts to less fertile and acidic soils, which has been a topic of debate in our municipality. Some mention that planting this crop in these soils can degrade them, something with which we personally disagree, but if we consider that not all our lands are planted with palm, because these soils can be used to plant crops with high demands such as fruit trees, also taking into account that we have a neighboring municipality with acidic soils and that palm can be planted in these areas, that is, zoning in the areas where palm can be planted.
