General characteristics of my geographical area

On this opportunity we will share with you some geographical characteristics of the region where we live, they are a little technical specifications, but of great value for those who would like to consult certain climate data and other elements that may be of interest to users on the web. We are Venezuelan citizens who reside in the state of Zulia in a geographical area known as South of Lake Maracaibo, specifically in the Municipality of Colon, where agriculture and livestock are the most practiced economic area. The Municipality of Colón is distributed in 5 parishes known as: Moralito, San Carlos, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Urribarrí.

For those who constantly follow our blog, you know that we are from the southern area of Lake Maracaibo in the west of the country, specifically in the Municipality of Colón in the state of Zulia which is made up of the aforementioned parishes including Santa Bárbara and San Carlos de Zulia, which are known as twin cities because, they are divided by a bridge therefore, they share certain agroecological characteristics, we emphasize this, because it is a rural area where large tracts of land are used for planting crops such as bananas, oil palm and especially pasture crops for livestock farming.

The climate in this area is of tropical humid forest, where the relative humidity levels are high, in addition to this, temperatures are recorded above 30°C, which sometimes creates a heat stress, as we say a suffocating heat is generated as very little wind, on the other hand, precipitation is continuously intensifying in some months more than others, since, Venezuela has two well-marked periods, which we personally define as rainy period between the months of May to October and little rainy from November -April.

This geographical area is rural, the economic activity that identifies the area is agriculture and livestock, large areas of land are established with banana, Oil palm, and cocoa crops, in our lands the popular porcelain cocoa is produced, very recognized worldwide, in addition, certain vegetables are grown such as chili pepper, paprika tomato among others, as well as tropical grass crops such as guinea, la estrella among others. Without a doubt I can say that we are in a highly productive area that provides the country with a high percentage of agricultural products.

To conclude it is important to mention that the soils of the area are alluvial, that is to say that most have been formed by the sediment carried by the rivers through the floods, they are soils that retain a lot of moisture, because they have a percentage of clays. Due to the high humidity for the sowing of some crops, drains are made so that water levels can be reduced when the rains are constant, as for grasses, which is a crop that we talk about a lot on the blog, there are grasses that adapt very well to these moist soils and others that are established very well in higher areas.
