In science, the specific is not enough (neither is the total). Just the new...

When, for example, a tsunami arises in a specific area of the planet and you want (and need) it to be scientifically studied and understood, it is not enough to record the immediate and singular terms of the matter. It is essential to specify the global, total factors that determined it. Although these total factors are not seen, they determine!

Both in the middle of the philosophy of knowledge in general (gnoseology) and in the middle of the philosophy of science (epistemology, which accounts for something more specific), there are notions and categories which are of enormous importance for that tenacious work of digging and removing millions of obstacles in that abstract and linguistic object that we call knowledge, thought, ideas ...

It's not about nihilisms, silly relativisms, that hippie culture of the '60s, no. It is, without more, to take the pulse of what science has historically been tracing both in terms of objectivity (that is, to confront the result of what is investigated, with the stubborn reality) and in terms of reason (okay that is, of logics, of eidetic and linguistic ordering systems).

There is no doubt, then, that the category not only gnoseological but also epistemological called concrete, concretion, is fundamental. Yes. It is fundamental since it denotes the object (real good, eidetic / linguistic good). Be careful ... it is not that it "connotes" it, but that it denotes it. In the connotative there are chiaroscuro, but in the denotative there are clarities (even with the provisionality that all signs and all reality carry with them). The concrete is the real object itself and is the idea (and symbolization) itself. When in science, there is cognitive (and language) reproduction of the real... there is concretion!

Ah...
Ah ... But for concrete to show itself scientifically as such, it has to jump the traps that the specific carries in its epidermis. Consequently, it has to somehow reveal those global factors that, being outside the respective singular context, determine it. It is something like what usually happens to psychiatrists ... The psychiatrist cannot put together an understanding of the patient's pathology (or the corresponding therapy), remaining in the singular circumstance of that illness. He has to take the pulse -to a large extent- to the biographical factors of the patient who are attuned to the pathology.

Ahora bien.
However. Those global factors that determine concrete are -too often- "dumb", "elusive". They are usually hidden from view of the investigator.

On the one hand, the factual reality that we investigate well in the laboratory or in the heat of life is hidden; and on the other hand, the global factors that we investigate are hidden even though they are outside of such factual reality, exercising determination.

It must be said that the escardilla that we use in science to study the factual expression (immediate, circumstantial) of the object is a method x, ye or zeta, but that in any of the cases, it must be consecrated, recognized ... The hypothetical -deductive, the systemic, in short. It must also be said that the escardilla that we use in science to study the total factors that determine the aforementioned factual expressions of the phenomena, must be the appeal to the qualified and pertinent theory.

To the extent that both the risks of falsehood that the phenomena in their epidermis carry with them, as well as the risks of falsehood that theoretical speculations about these phenomena carry with them, then the provisional truth becomes feasible. Science is that provisional, transhistoric truth. Also stubborn?Yes. It is stubborn but changeable, contradictory, dialectical, fascinating.

This scientific truth is what we now call ... new included ; this in large part to contrast it with those old truths that they assumed as legitimate and terminal, the non-contradictory, the eternal, the tautological and the third excluded. Truth is dialectical and as such, new included.
