This morning I was inspired by a publication in this community by @fmbs25, a great platform friend. I said to myself why not present the photographs that I capture from my passion for life and that have a simple botanical explanation. So I took my macro lenses, a kind of magnifying glass similar to a microscope, ¡and while my son was in swimming lessons I was inspired to photograph the plants around!

In a corner, near the pool was a plant of Trinitaria. Its scientific name is Bougainvillea glabra. It is beautiful and together with its namesake, it adorns the wall of the building. Its leaves, stem, bracts and flowers simply dazzle with their colors.

image.png

It is a climbing plant, shrubby and woody. Its stems show the hardness and at the same time the flexibility of a cell wall that allows it to "grow" in order to survive. It is responsible for supporting the other plant organs, leaves, which perform photosynthesis, flowers, which proliferate the species.

In this photograph we can appreciate the texture of its stem, at first sight, rigid, flaky, hard. The fibers that make up its structure are materialized in this way. Because it is a shrub, its branches are numerous and do not start from a central axis. They make a framework, which supports and protects them.

Its leaves, in this case, show two colors, green and white. It is characterized by having marked veins, typical of a dicotyledonous, for its shape, aovada-lanceolada, with a pronounced and drawn apex. The leaves are so important for the plants, because it performs the exchange of gases, prevents desiccation and produces photosynthesis.

Beautiful bracts -modified leaves that blend in like their flowers- border them. In this case, they are white. In the image we can even appreciate their veins. The flower adheres to the central rib of the bract.

The flower, beautiful and small, shy, does not show its masculine and feminine structures at first sight. An anther appears in some shots; however, I do a rudimentary dissection, using my sarcillo as a blade, to discover its anthers and female structures. There they were, a complete flower, hermaphrodite, with both structures in one piece to ensure the offspring.

And in that hour of therapy, while the boy was enjoying himself, I was rewarded with the arrival of two butterflies to pollinate. Their sucking trunk is immersed in the bell that forms their corolla, and they consume nectar, while also helping the pollen grain to reach the flower's pollen tube. Excellent gift of nature!

Also, a cochineal poses for us to see, and thanks to the cell phone's lens and zoom, we can capture its details. I was amazed with the production of this publication, I enjoyed the moment, I captured the images without having a great professional camera, I reactivated my field practices by dissecting the flower on an improvised table with a special scalpel and I loved editing the photographs in Microsoft Power point.

Thank you for reading and observing the photographs. Any comments can be made at the end. The photographs belong to my authorship and were captured with a Huawei mobile device, using simple macro lenses and edited later. The translation was done using DeepL Pro.
