Macro Photography - King of the Bushes Preying Moths

IMG20230801112645.jpg

As I said in a post some time ago, the Oxyopes salticus spider when preying does not need a net trap like other types of spiders. And yesterday when I was in the bushes I managed to capture a few moments of this spider catching its prey.

Also in that post I also said that spiders are able to prey on insects that are the same size or even bigger than their body size. And that is evident in the several photos that I have uploaded, the Oxyopes salticus spider preys on a wasp moth that is more or less the same size as the spider's body.

Oxyopes salticus is a spider in the Oxyopidae family that lives in bushes. The food is several types of small insects such as caterpillars, moths and other types of insects. This spider has characteristics between male and female sex.

What I share is a female spider while the male has a foreleg shape that resembles a crab's hand. For the color itself between females and males is relatively the same, which is brownish yellow and also has spiny legs.

That's normal for spiders because by nature they are predators. Thanks you :)

Ah yes, I love me some good old rumble in the jungle. Insects can be vicious with all those extra appendages. Very nice shots!
