Ladybug (Epilachna) - Mexican bean beetle
Ladybug is a genus of Epilachna beetles in the Coccinellidae family. This little beetle is also known as the Mexican bean beetle because this beetle is known as a leaf-eating beetle in Mexico. As for some of the plants that like to be food for these beetles are legume plants such as green beans, long beans and soybeans.
Even though it is known as the Mexican bean beetle, I myself did not find this beetle in Mexico. But in Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. It's the same with beetles or other types of insects which of course are not only scattered in one area but are scattered in various regions in this world.
Especially like in the area where I live with a tropical climate where nature is filled with greenery. It is certain that various species of insects will survive there, especially leaf-eating insect species. And one of them is this genus of Epilachna beetles.
If in Mexico this beetle likes to eat legumes, but in Indonesia this beetle is actually more easily found on eggplant plants. And the type of pumpkin plant. Even in the woods, where there are eggplants it is almost impossible not to have Epilachna beetles there.
Ladybug attacks on eggplant plants are easily marked, namely there are holes in the leaves as a sign that a ladybug has bitten them. And if a large number of ladybugs attack an eggplant plant, usually the eggplant plant will no longer be fertile, marked by yellow eggplant leaves because there are too many ladybug bites.
Thus the ladybug is a type of leaf-eating beetle that acts as a pest for cultivated plants. So that if the ladybug attacks can no longer be controlled by the farmers, they will spray insecticides to stop these ladybugs.
Even so, the ladybug is still a beautiful object to photograph because its shape, pattern, and color make it one of the most attractive and beautiful insects. And of course in this post I have uploaded some of the ladybug photos that I took yesterday when I was hunting insects in the forest. Luckily again, I managed to peek while they are making love. :)
