FungiFriday - The hardy mushroom survives the hot summer

It has not rained for more than a week even though it is sometimes cloudy in the afternoon. Maybe this is a sign that the rainy season is over. Unfortunately, I didn't save many stock photos of mushrooms, which were easy to find during the rainy season some time ago.

When the rain stopped, some of the rotten logs became dry. It is absolutely impossible for mold to grow. Luckily a few days ago when I was hunting for insects in the forest I found two types of mushrooms that still survive despite the hot weather.

The two mushrooms that I am referring to include the Pycnoporus coccineus mushroom, from the Polyporaceae family. I found this mushroom growing on cottonwood stems that had been cut down some time ago.

Then there is the Fomitopsis pinicola mushroom which I also found growing on large logs that had been cut down for a long time. We can often find this mushroom growing on weathered logs, but what caught my attention this time was that it grew like a tower.
