I HAD A DREAM OF AEROPLANE ONE NIGHT IN MY CHILDHOOD YEARS, LITTLE DID I KNOW IT WAS A MESSAGE
Countless nights went by, and aside from barely seeing the airplane in my dreams—until it no longer appeared—I also reached the phase of imagining and thinking about my dream course because of that dreams. Way back then, the programs I found interesting were Aeronautics, followed by Chef, Doctor, Teacher, and Engineering.
I included Engineering in my dream course because of its high salary, and I knew it in younger years, and because it is so cool, although it is quite difficult. Whenever my relatives asked me about my dream course, I would always respond with a word "Engineering," and I could sense that they believed in me—that I could achieve it in the future. On the modest side, I was an academic achiever back then and until now, and I do believe this could help me in pursuing Engineering in the future. Since then, I fell in love with Engineering and promised myself to be persistent in order to achieve this big dream of mine.
I have these skills of mine where I love Math but feel like Math doesn’t love me, and I hate English but English doesn’t hate me. In other words, I have difficulties when it comes to Math. Some people, when they hear Engineering, the first word that comes to their mind is Math, and they even make a saying like, “Math intelligence would be the most powerful weapon that can really help you in order to survive in Engineering.” But I don’t agree with this cliché, because I believe that as long as you are determined and tactical, you can survive and make your way out.
Honestly, I’m not really bad at Math. I even receive compliments from my classmates—it’s just that I don’t excel in this subject. As I continued to believe in myself, when we had a career guidance program, I literally wore the outfit of the Engineering profession. Firmly and proudly. The moment I walked on the stage when we had an event of career guidance, I really saw myself as an Engineer and even felt professional in front of everyone.
In Research, as part of our subject, we were told that we would be grouped according to our chosen course. So, if you wanted to be an Architect, you could expect that your groupmates were also Architecture dreamers. This may not seem right, but this is our curriculum and this is how it actually works.
Talking about Research, we were tasked to create a station in which we would report our assigned topic or parts in research. Additionally, we had to design our station and explain why we chose this design.
Since we were from the Engineering course, we decided to choose designs connected to Engineering. During the presentation, we wore Engineering outfits, and the presentation flowed smoothly. We received compliments not just from our research teacher but also from our classmates. After the presentation, I looked up at the sky, not dramatically, but hopeful, and promised myself to pursue Engineering whatever circumstances would arise after I graduate this year.
Going back to the airplane in my dream, it really was a sign that I would someday be dreaming of working in an airplane. But sadly, it was not my dream course. What started as just simple reasons brought me to a very difficult course. Still, I will always choose and pursue Engineering. Maybe that dream was just a correlation and not the fate.
Dreams are related to our unconscious and our unconscious influence the reality. Maybe that's how I found myself starting to do the beginning of engineering dreams. It was a message and now is the time to understand it. Little by little, I would be able to be one passionate engineer in the future, not with time but with intention.
You, what lead you to your dream profession?
What an inspiring story! ✈️ It’s amazing how your childhood dream connected to the path you’re now pursuing. Engineering is tough, but with your determination, I’m sure you’ll make it. Keep going! 💪
