AZL Book: Electrical Math - Wide Range Digital Input

It doesn’t look like much, but this has to be one of my favorites.

I was fairly green when I designed this circuit, so I had to take a more roundabout approach. I created a spreadsheet that would calculate the outcome of variations to the resistors and input voltages and display them side by side. I used color coding to show the wattage dissipation so I could quickly asses whether or not a potential solution was viable for my desired range.

As designed, this circuit accepts a signal from 0-150 VDC. If the input is below 12V, it will output 0. All input voltages above 12VDC will be output as 12VDC. This output is intended to be wired to a 12V digital input.

This circuit has been built into modular terminal blocks and used on many projects of varying functionality.

In the above picture, each pair of terminal blocks joined by a red jumper represents a block circuit, as shown below:

This cheap and simple circuit creates a novel solution to an otherwise complicated issue, particularly in the field of universal automation.

Thanks for checking out some more of my work! As always, I hope you enjoyed witnessing as much as I enjoyed creating!
