SOLUTION TO 08/03/2025 MATH CHALLENGE // BY @AKWASH360

Hello everyone, I’m glad to share my solution for 08/03/2025 Math Challenge. After several attempt to get this done, I’m happy I finally got the solution at the end of the day. So without wasting any time I would like to present the steps of which I got the solution.

The first thing I did was to transform the word problem to mathematical terms, by representing or assuming X to be the variable for width. Since the length is 4 meters longer than two times the width, this implies that the term for the length is 2x +4.

Having those terms sorted, the next thing I did was to put all the terms together applying the formula for finding the Area of a rectangle which is A=L*W. Substituting the terms for length and the width and further simplify to get the quadratic equation X2 + 2X – 60 = 0.

Furthermore, I proceeded to solve the quadratic equation using the quadratic formula where the constant value for a is 1, b is 2 and c is -60. Simplifying further I was able to get the valid number for X to be 6.18 which is also the value of the width (W).

After establishing that fact, the next thing I did was to obtain the for the length by substituting the value of X = 6.18 into the term or equation 2X + 4. Which I further solve to obtain 17.62 as the length of the rectangle. That implies that we’ve successfully got the width to be 6.18m and the length to be 17.62m as the area of the rectangle is 120 meter square.
