Scoliid Wasp (Scoliidae sp.)

The scoliid wasp is a species of wasp belonging to the family Scoliidae. This wasp lives solitary, with nectar and flower essences as its main diet sources. However, this wasp is also known as a predator of certain insects and spiders. It does not eat its prey, but instead drags and flies it to its nest to feed its larvae.

Most scoliid wasps are black and hairy mimicking spines on their faces, thorax, abdomen, and legs. But this one has golden yellow hair—that's also what forms the bands on the abdominal segment—and transparent brown wings.

These images were taken near the Lhok Gajah reservoir in the hinterland of North Aceh. Yes, there are enough weeds growing along the banks of the reservoir, thus allowing all kinds of pollinators to come and suck up the nectar or pollen.
