Ouachita Plumetop (Ommatius ouachitensis)

I have observed that almost anywhere there is grassy land near marshes or waterlogged fields, the robber fly's habitat is bound to be there. Commonly, they are species of the genus Ommatius, one of the small robber flies belonging to the family Asilidae. But what is really the most numerous is the species Ommatius ouachitensis, commonly known as the ouachita plumetop, which you can see below.

The physical characteristics of Ommatius ouachitensis are identified based on the following characteristics: It has metallic green to copper-red compound eyes, sparse facial hairs, a stocky pale gray thorax, orange and black legs, stout claws, and a long brownish-gray abdomen with seven segments.

Robber flies, including this species, are known as ruthless insect predators. The strong claws are useful for gripping prey while it is flying, while the proboscis is used as a weapon to stab the prey's vital organs.
