Monomad: Law of the Jungle in the Grassland

The wind in the Manyang hills blew gently that afternoon. I walked near a swamp that was an ex-excavation site. The tall grass around the swamp grew up to knee height.

I noticed many stem borer moths there. Each one hugged the grass stem; some hung from the grass flower panicle.

Their eyes were wide open like a hawk's. But they could not see anything during the day. Stem borer moths are nocturnal insects.

Some predators took full advantage of the opportunity to hunt moths. The crab spider was one of them.

There were many lunch menus around it. It sniffed its prey and slowly moved closer to the moth, which could not see anything.

The crab spider's strong jaws bit the poor moth. All the moth's efforts to escape were in vain.

The others might be lucky enough to survive the predator's attack. But tomorrow, they could be the crab spider's next target.

This is another entry I submitted for the daily #monomad challenge.

All these photos are my original work, taken with a Xiaomi POCO NFC smartphone and an assembled external macro lens.
