Loose Chinese Fan (Schizophylum commune)

Schizophylum commune (family Schizophyllaceae), or the loose Chinese fan fungus, occurs in large numbers during the rainy season. You will see this fungus everywhere on rotten wood, and it may not be interesting because it resembles a small coral wave. But if you look at the shape of its split gills, I am sure you'll love this mushroom.

When I visited my friend at his house, east of my city, I asked his permission to walk around his garden. I picked up some pieces of rotten wood, and as you can see, loose Chinese fan mushrooms are growing fantastically there.

The split gills of the mushroom are truly amazing. Yeah, they look more or less like a loose Chinese fan, so graceful and impressive. I love them so much! I captured some of them; some are slightly larger, while others are juvenile mushrooms.
