Euphaea variegata | Sundanese Gossamerwing
One day at the end of April, the coral rocks sticking out of the Blang Kolam River looked like a busy airfield, where many helicopters landed after returning from flights to deliver logistics somewhere. I'm not talking about real helicopters here, but about damselflies whose habitat is found along rocky rivers.
The Sundanese Gossamerwing, which in Latin is called Euphaea variegata , is the damselfly species that I mean. It was an amazing sight to behold amidst the sound of water flowing between the rocks.
And what's interesting, they seem very tame even though you are close enough to them, so I can freely capture pictures with beautiful angles. But it must be paid for with my wet pants due to immersing in the water. I didn't mind it at all as long as there weren't leeches grabbing my feet.
Euphaea variegata is one of the many damselflies that inhabits rocky rivers in Indonesia's tropical wet forests.
The most striking physical characteristics of this species are the metallic purple markings on the underside of the wings and metallic green on the upper side.
The skin shedding stage in a nymph or juvenile damselfly becomes an adult.
Often where this species' habitat is found, you will also see other species that are still related to them in the family Chlorocyphidae.
Beautiful photos! Where I live, I don't see these kind of bugs very often. Though when I used to live in Greece when I was younger, nearby the hotel we were in, was a little waterfall and there we would often find Dragonflies around every corner. These photos bring me nice memories. 😊😀
Amazing dragonfly very interesting photographs of the stages of development from nymph to adult!
