Dysochrysa furcata | The Red Lacewing

There were so many insects that I encountered in the Aceh jungle that I explored, but this one really captivated me. In a way, it bears a resemblance to the owlfly, but this one has small eyes; conversely, the owlfly has large eyes like a dragonfly. So sometimes some people mistakenly identify this insect as an owlfly; precisely what is more appropriate is a lacewing.

There are many species of lacewings with varying physical characteristics and colors, and the most common one is the green lacewing, but the first thing I saw in person was this one: Dysochrysa furcata (Tjeder, 1966), the red lacewing, a species of lacewing belonging to the family Chrysopidae.

By chance two weeks earlier, I had found lacewing eggs placed on a small twig. Like balloons tied with thin threads. So you could say that I actually got to know the eggs first, then their mom.

The beautiful mom, as well as the eggs, were the most fantastic thing I had ever seen while observing insects.
