Cicindela aurulenta: Mating season

Insect mating! Yes, that's the moment I've been waiting for. After a long time, I didn't see insects mating anymore; finally, two days ago it happened too. Yes, I saw that!

Two little monsters are mating! They are the golden-spotted tiger beetles (Cicindela aurulenta ), a species of beetle belonging to the family Cicindelidae. This is a rare moment, and this is the first time I caught them mating.

It is usually very difficult to catch these beetles if they are alone. That's because they are very aggressive and run so fast. I often see these beetles on the rocks in the shallows of rivers, and usually they like to hunt for ants.

But finally, I know when it's time for them to calm down. The first is when they are having lunch (when they are preying), and the second is when they are mating.

I think they're mimicking Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet on the bow of the Titanic. LOL
