Let's Play "Quest for the Book of Truth" (PICO-8) - A Tiny Zelda-like

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Quest for the Book of Truth by Mush is an action adventure game about unlocking your way to find the Book of Truth, conquering multiple dungeons along the way.

The game is heavily inspired with the 2D Legend of Zelda titles, and has similar progression and action systems, though the gameplay is a PICO-8 simple. One buttons opens the tools menu to choose your current item, while the other button takes action with that item. As you play the game you get to use a Sword, a Bow, a Teleporting Rod and a few other items.

There are a few entrance to a connected dungeons (or seemingly one) that will pave a path to the Book of Truth upon conquering.

One interesting mechanic Quest for the Book of Truth has, is the combining of Tooks. In this video you'll watch me combine the Bow with the Teleporter Rod allowing me to teleport to far places, but I lost my long-ranged weapon in the process, It was an interesting risk-reward system this game had.

PICO-8 is a Fantasy Console designed to create, share and play small retro-inspired games. Games made for PICO-8 are constrained in aethistics, code and size to encourage creativity. PICO-8 comes with a built-in code editor, graphics, and sound tools. Games are distributed in image files called Cartridges. In this series of videos, I discover great games made on this Fantasy Console, letting you discover these games with me.

This playthrough was recorded on a Steam Deck. Thanks for Watching!

P.S: The game's title is long isn't it?

Never heard about the PICO-8 and now I am interested in finding more about it. It does look like early zelda games though. The music takes me back to my happy childhood memories.

This game in particular is heavily inspired vy Zelda... Most of PICO-8 games are inspired by 8Bit and 16Bit limitations.
